Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Snow still baffled me. Growing up and living the better part of my life in the desert meant that I had never seen snow before I wandered far away from those lands. And even though it had been some four years since first I had left the ever-dry dunes of my homeland, the falling of snow was still something of a wonderment to me. To know that the air was so cold that it possessed the power to freeze the rain as it descended from the heavens was a most peculiar thing. As I lowered my nose to sniff at the premature crocus – which even in its beauty was sure to be smothered and die in the next snowfall – I pressed the black of my nose into the white of the powder that surrounded it. I scooped away the snow, giving the flower the best chance for the short life that it would live. Perhaps I would not be the only blessed with its beauty before its existence was snuffed out.

Lifting my eyes of swirling orange hues, I gazed out across the meadow once more, lingering near the flower and hoping that perhaps there was someone I could share this rare beauty with. It was then that I spotted another wolf across the meadow, her tail soaring behind her with glee as she made her way through the snow. My own tail lifted slightly, waving back and forth at the realization that I was not alone this day. Today I would meet another of my pack.

She swept across the meadow with a grace that only one who had known snow all her life could master. I could not begin to imagine how foolish I would look if I attempted the same – for my stature was much slighter than hers. However, given my lighter weight I did find it easier to remain atop the snow, rather than plunging down through it as many others did. Rather than flinch back from her quick approach, I simply lifted a single paw and shielded the small flower the best that I could, so that I might be able to share it with her.

For a moment when I first meet her gaze I am speechless, for the dark violet that is the base color of her irises so greatly reminds me of Kebechet’s eyes, though hers had been striated with the orange of my own eyes. I simply stare for a moment, barely hearing her greeting as I remember her, and all that I had lost. But the way the girl before me’s voice rises at the end pulls me back to reality, blinking away the recollections as I realize she has asked for my name.

Ahlan; ismee Anubis,

I say, the memories of my former life so easily pulling my tongue back to the Arabic I had spoken all my life. Remembering myself, I smile and speak once more so that she will know I can in fact speak the common tongue of Moladion.

I am Anubis; and it has been twelve years since my first mewl was heard upon the desert sands far and away north and west of here.

It was a land I doubted many of this realm had ever heard of or cared to venture to. Only the male upon the plains had the slightest inkling of where I originated from, for he too was of a desert lineage, though one far removed from my own.

And what is I calling you?

My thick Arabic accent wrapped around each word as I spoke. It was then that I realized my paw was still dangling in midair in defense of the tiny flower, and I lowered it and brushed away the snow her movements had still managed to cast upon it. Only when I was satisfied that it would be easily visible to her did I withdraw my paw and set it back alongside my other forepaw, looking back up to her. I would not upbraid her for dusting the flower with snow in her movements, and my gaze was simply curious and in waiting of her reply.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
