News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

She was thankful that their meeting was a peaceful one; he was a good learner, or at least certainly a good listener. She supposed neither of them would know just how well the learning had gone until he was faced with the final challenge. Even then, though, she knew she'd be there to help guide him. When one became a student of hers, they did not fall to the wayside so easily. Each wolf of Spirane was family, perhaps, but those that chose to share something with her like this? They were closer to her soul. As long as he was willing to learn, she would always be willing to provide him with whatever guidance she could offer. That's just how things had always been with her. Her heart had many holes, but it would always be large enough and warm enough to house the whole world.

When he was silent, she too fell into an easy silence, allowing both of them to turn and enter in the expansive hollow. It was a broad, open place that allowed light to illuminate much of its reaches. The floor was littered with feathers of all shapes and shades, the edges littered with colourful stones she had found and unusual shaped pieces of woods. It was not only a homage to her healing arts but also to those she had known or wished to know. Somewhere, there was even a piece of nature dedicated to Moonglow and Alcide and eventually, one would be placed that reminded her of Swallowbane himself. She liked it that way - it meant she could have them all close even when they were not. Good memories, but sometimes bad. Sometimes the smell of salt reminded her too much of Litherum and the family she had lost there. But for now, she paid her trinkets no heed as she shifted over so that Bane might look upon the other collection; bark littered with spider webs, flowers half dried or fresh, and even feathers crusted ever so slightly with the ocean's water. She had done her best to bring it all to Spirane, though it was often a difficult task.

"All of this is all of yours, too. Any Healer - anybody - in Spirane may come to this den and take what they need. When spring comes, come and take some to your own den so that you are always close to the essentials."

She motioned towards it all with a small grin, though her eyes were serious in their intent. It would be a grim lesson if he did not heed such words; the den, after all, was relatively central but to waste time running from hollow to hollow could be the line between success and failure. She had not even stopped to think if he had his own personal home - she simply... expected it, she supposed. It would not have been right if he had not at least been offered one of the foxholes or abandoned nursing dens when he had arrived. Had she known he had no true place to rest, she would have very well have offered the help he needed.

"Pain management. Let's begin."

She broke into a real grin then, finally in her element as she motioned towards a cluster of greenery and flowers. One was a crimson poppy, though dried as it were, but the other was where she turned her attention to first: a rather unappealing brown mess of roots. Perhaps they did not call out to others immediately but she knew their scent well, and soon, she hoped her student would learn it too. It was an unassuming plant without its white flowers, after all, so many overlooked it.

"The root of this plant - the valerian - can aid with pain and spasms. Us ladies are prone to such things during the birthing process, see. Our muscles do the most unnatural things to bring life into this world and sometimes, they do not know when to stop. Take the roots - just the roots - and give it to her and she will settle down soon enough."

She turned towards him, gauging his face for understanding before proceeding, this time turning her attention to the dried poppy flower, its center clustered with tiny black seeds.

"If that does not help, try the seeds of the poppy. Enough of these and pain will fast go away. However, it takes quite a few. The best way to administer is straight from the flower itself. Too many though can...cause a stupor."

She sighed a little at that. Really, it was the last thing a healer wanted when dealing with somebody in pain. They needed to be there, not in dreams. A dreamer couldn't tell you what was hurting, after all.
