Ever since her rescue from the woodlands, Hush had paid close attention to Reian, her comings and goings. Maybe it was because she was the only one of her children around to pay attention to, or maybe it was because of the way Reian carried herself – but she wanted to know everything she could about the girl. At the same time she didn’t want to be overbearing (her daughter was an adult, after all), so she’d taken to sometimes following her from a distance. It was interesting to see where she went and watch her interact with others. It filled Hush with a certain pride simply to watch her flourish and live.
So when Reian left Taviora, she let some time elapse and then moved off to follow her. She didn’t consider it stalking, necessarily, as she would gladly join Reian in anything she was doing should she be discovered at her heels. Assuming she was invited, of course. Otherwise, she’d just disappear and leave her daughter at peace. To her knowledge, she’d kept enough distance between them to avoid notice; she was very careful of that, and today was no exception. Hush came into the fields about twenty minutes behind Reian, even going so far as to take a different direction around the group gathered at the lakeshore.
She caught glimpses of the fallen beast as she passed by, but took no real interest in it. Instead she circled wide and sat down some distance behind the girl who was some of her and more of her father, just watching to see what she would make of the mass of bodies at the water’s edge. But her head seemed to follow the movements of one in particular, and when Hush’s eyes found him she was on her feet so fast that snow flew from under her paws in small clouds. He wasn’t Sen, as she initially thought, but she recognized the mahogany feet, those violet eyes.
Calyx. Her youngest son.
