aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

Even as his words were falling from his mouth, Magic's head dropped, her gaze falling to the earth, but as soon as he fell silent it shot right back up. Zig lost something incredible for not being loyal. Before making a choice, you have to think, and clearly that is not what she did. She was never here for us. In fact, not any one of us had established a conversation with her. She was not here to start, or receive, one. In my opinion, the only loss, as a pack, we have endured is the loss of an Alphess that behaved like an Omega. However, Kalgalath, my grief for you is strong. I am truly sorry for your loss. Her words were smooth and her vocals even, but the King knew not only that she knew how he felt, but that she was holding her anger back. There was a lot of that flowing through this terra right now - anger, repression, betrayal, depression. There were wolves who would always stay and there were some who would leave, that was always the tale. But it seemed that the ones who left here too often were leaving behind loved ones. Kalgalath could understand those who were loners - it was hard for them to bond with others or to form attachments, thus finding it difficult to come to call a terra home, to call a pack family. But those with mates and pups? It was betrayal.

Gently, Kalgalath leaned into Magic, once more finding comfort in her words as he so often did. "Thank you, my friend, for your honesty and your loyalty. To have my back backing my decision means the world to me. I am sorry most that she caused so much pain among you all... Especially with you Magic. I think she was jealous of our friendship for she constantly was trying to put down your decisions and get in your way." She was one of his closest friends, and he trusted her implicitly as his Beta, entrusting the lands to her whenever he left. "Perhaps I shall just have to get your approval before ever choosing a mate again, since I clearly have such a poor track record." He chuckled softly, only half kidding. He often rushed into love, not fully discovering the other before devoting himself to her. It had brought him nothing but hurt in the past... Perhaps new tactics were needed.

Magic is right Kal. The pack still has you and you are the one who has protected this pack and kept us all together, not her. None of us knew her as we all know you. You are the one who has made the efforts to keep this pack alive as a family, not her. But I know how hard it is to lose someone you love. We’re both here for you Kal, and we always will stand by your side. A ghost of a smile flittered to his face and he sighed, finding himself both relieved and grieved. He was comforted that they supported his decision and that it was ultimately better for the pack to have Zig gone from the lands... But he was distressed to find the femme he had chosen as his mate was even more socially inept than he thought. She had always butted heads with Magic, but to have her not form bonds with any of the other members, the ones she was supposed to be leading? To say it was disappointing would be an understatement. She had neglected the pack far before she had disappeared from it apparently...

Chenzii, you look amazing. Turning his arctics upon his other friend, he saw that Magic was right. It looked as if she had completely healed from Chiron's second departure, at least physically. Lord he knew that the heart would take longer... But at least her body was no longer skin and bones, and her coat was once more sleek and shined. He nodded in agreement and smiled truthfully as she thanked Magic. And suddenly, he realized he had a fire inside of him - hope. These, his friends, had remained. Even if his pack was small, he would rather have a few loyal members than many who cared naught at all. "My friends, we will see life return to Aurora Borealis yet. Though we are still in the dead of winter, we must be vigilant. We need new members and fresh Intel. Chenzii, once more I ask that you travel to Saw Tooth - I have heard news of Moths return... Can you go in my stead and see what state our sister pack is in? Take Blayre with you, if you can convince her to go. It would be good for her to see some diplomacy at work. Magic, I would ask that you try to recruit new members. Pups, loners, families... We will be a haven for all. Many of our kind starve during the harsh winters, and we are lucky enough to have a terra stocked with prey. Let them know that they have a home. I will be traveling to Moondown Shadows to check in with my son and daughter and to see how Striker is doing."
