Great point hereby, unfortunately never much understood by many, due to media bias. In other words, because of media and "news" prevalence in today's society, chances are that people tend to believe something not because it's true, but mainly because it was seen or said on TV or the Radio. The next thing you know is that such a person or group got to deal with all that reputation damage before even answering with the claims that put them in that situation.

Indeed in Islam it is highly advised to not judge someone until clear evidence and even witness can be summoned and brought to evidence such claim. In most instances such stringent requirements in establishing a verdict are necessary in society in order to maintain order, rule of law as agreed upon, respect and trust among its members.
