The first season for the 360 cubic inch engine supermodified series will consist of six races at the famed one-third mile LoanMart Madera Speedway. Highlights of the schedule will be the Pombo/Sargent Classic on March 28th, the Vukovich Classic on May 2nd, as well as the Harvest Classic on October 19th. The 2014 season consisted of a single exhibition race at the LoanMart Short Track Shootout on October 18th, 2014. Madera officials were so mesmerized by the principle that they agreed to the following schedule.

For the first official race of California Supermodified Series history, the series will roar into the LoanMart Madera Speedway for the Pombo/Sargent Classic on March 28th. Named after two west coast supermodified legends, Al Pombo and Marshall Sargent, the 360 supermodified series will be joined by two classes of vintage supermodifieds (the regular vintage cars and a newly designed open vintage supermodified class), and two classes of sprint cars (the nationally-touring Davey Hamilton King of the Wing cars as well as the Northern California Modified Association sprints). Three classes of midgets (the normal Bay Cities Racing Association midgets along with their vintage class and the United States Auto Club (USAC) HPD Western Midget Pavement Series) will also be in attendance.

The series will next race on May 2nd at the Vukovich Classic at Madera. They will be joined on the card of racing action by three other classes of supermodified (the modern and vintage open supermodified classes as well as the more strictly regulated vintage supermodifieds), two classes of sprint cars (the nationally-touring Davey Hamilton King of the Wing cars as well as the Northern California Modified Association sprints), three classes of midgets (the normal Bay Cities Racing Association midgets along with their vintage class and the United States Auto Club (USAC) HPD Western Midget Pavement Series), as well as the Twisted Tea Modified Series and the California Hardtop Association. This race is going to be huge, as it will be the 25th anniversary of losing race namesake and 1988 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Billy Vukovich III. Vukovich was killed in a sprint car accident at the Mesa Marin Speedway in Bakersfield, California.

The tour will race again on June the 20th. They will be joined at the LoanMart Madera Speedway with the LoanMart Open Late Model Series, the Super Hobby Stock Series, the Legends of the Pacific series, as well as a handful of other Madera stock car weekly classes. The series again returns to a huge event of touring series at the Gerhardt Classic on July 11th, as the tour is joined by the track’s traditional vintage supermodified classes (open and restricted) along with the 100 lap Bay Cities Racing Association feature honoring legendary Indy car builder Fred Gerhardt. Vintage midgets as well as the USAC HPD Western Pavement Midget Series. Also racing will be the Davey Hamilton King of the Wing sprints as well as the Northern California Modified Association sprints and the Twisted Tea modifieds for race number four of the schedule.

The fifth race of the tour will be on August 15th as the racers are joined by their open ruled vintage counterparts, the USAC HPD midgets, the NCMA sprints, the 5th race for the Twisted Tea Modifieds, as well as a couple of entry-level weekly stock car divisions. The season finale will come on September 19th as the series attempts to crown a champion. The King of the Wing and Northern California Modified Association sprint car series as well as the Bay Cities Racing Association and USAC HPD Midget series will be in attendance as well with another Twisted Tea modified race. The track’s vintage supermods and Hardtops will help fill out the show, which is completed by an appearance by the multi-engine pulling tractors that have added a unique aspect to this entertainment event’s schedule in years past.

About the California Supermodified Series: The California Supermodified Series is a series for “the world’s ultimate short track racecar”, the supermodified, to once again reign supreme in California, after the last several years have proven themselves to be rather disastrous for this historic area of supermodified racing. Several big-name drivers such as Clovis’ AJ Russell have committed to racing with this series.
