Though he had only recently learned the art of healing, Swallowbane had always known what a head looked like that wasn’t quite… right. His was one of them, that was for sure. Yeah, no, he knew exactly what was going on when Sven caught his eye. Though he’d taken a proper den at Niviaq’s urging, Bane tended to stick to his place up on the mountain when there weren’t so many emergencies to be worrying about. Sure, he was on guard for the sound of pups being born and mothers in distress, but he could see everything from his spot on the mountain. Carefully tucked away on a ledge that seemed too treacherous to actually access… the best spot in the universe.

He’d watched Sven stagger down the trail. There was a walk like that, one that he could read. Swallowbane knew it so incredibly well, and it was that which brought him to his feet. At least the creature didn’t look like he’d throw himself off the mountain itself. Bane had considered it often, but wouldn’t dare disrespect the cosmos like that. A mountainborn son pitching himself from the cliffs he called home? Blasphemy. It was his only shred of religion. He wonders briefly if the young man has a faith to rely on, and then doubts it immediately.

Still sore from an incident with a bovine beast (one that he wouldn’t explain the reasoning toward to anyone, for reasons that were less than obvious), it took him longer than the other creature to get down the mountain. Still, he was able to pick up a decent amount of speed once at the bottom. Yes, the river would swell more and more, and it would take many of the hopeful plants starting to sprout careful greens. Hell, it would sweep everything away. Swallowbane himself had considered that too. Drowning wasn’t a good way to go, or so he’d heard. Sounded pretty legit.

He coughs first, before speaking. Sure, he’d had this lingering chest thing for a while, but that wasn’t what he meant. “I don’t know if you’re going to jump or if you’re going to fall, but I’d prefer if you didn’t do either.” Bane stands back from the black and white wolf, a creature that he’d simply seen around. Hell, he hadn’t interacted with anyone really, since he’d been back. Always here but never really there. What an irony it was that Bane was now trying to play guardian angel. Sitting carefully on his haunches, the beast watches the young man.
