| A boy, a young boy, laying in a den beside his mother and his sister. Life that’s so new and yet so strong, something inside him that’s forming already in those early moments. It’s all starting to come together. An old soul is stretching somewhere deep inside the body that will grow to become a handsome man. Yes, that body is small now, but already he is great. Mighty, maybe, even. He suckles easily from his mother. Confident. He can sense things going on around him, but he isn’t bothered. Yes, there is a warm and equally squishy sort of fur beside him, and a warm and less squishy sort of fur in front of him. That is what matters.
Somewhere far away, something else enters the scene. Though Dakota doesn’t know it yet, this being is also going to be very important. It’s all so far away, and the old soul isn’t bothered. That will continue for the rest of his days, this lack of bothered feeling that will one day haunt him, and a day much later he will come to embrace. All of it has the potential of forming in the next few minutes, but he is able to fall asleep with a full belly and a warm heart in the presence of his family. That too, some years later, will be important. It’s all prophecy, at this point. Nothing more and nothing less is to be said about the creature in the little den in the plains.
