she had never been the best at paying attention. for all her catching the heart of the best man in hogwarts, she had not earned it in the least. she was emotional, she was flighty, she was awfully obtuse. it made her the worst kind of head-in-the-clouds sort of ignoramus imaginable. he had watched her through it all, as the world took that gangly girl and turned her into a woman before she knew how to control the use of her new power. he watched her as her power drew in equally strong powers, only these that she drew in knew what it was they were doing and it left kitty dragged through all kinds of trouble and heartache when she could not keep up.

and now that boy, much older, wiser, jaded -- he sits with his arms around that self-same flake of a charming little girl again, only now she is also older, and sometimes just a little wiser. she curls into his chest and laughs over romantic comedies, over old agents making a custards stand and the romance of some nobody that gets dragged along. her hands stroke the pets that he has loved, sit in the home he has kept up, and rather a bit engrossed in him as it ends and he asks his questions.

“Did you like it?” he asks, innocent and voice hoarse from the idleness that came from watching a full feature film. “oh my good merlin’s snaggletooth… the man with the pig…. i love the russian and mi6 woman, though… their story, it resonates,” she says with a little humor and a little regret, cautious but being surprisingly honest with how things went between them. “I will stay up for "Die Hard" if you like, but I'm getting to be a bit sleepy.” he admits with a yawn and a stretch that removes his arm from around her and allows her to sit up properly to tuck hair behind her ear.

“oh, just one more? maybe something less… harrowing… how about How To Train Your Dragon!?” she says, squinting and pointing where it was on one of the shelves. “Sounds kind of fun!” she says, pleading grin now matched with hands clasped together.

“If you need a shirt for bed, let me know.” he says, quite suddenly that makes her jump a little with wide eyed surprise, “I've noticed all of mine are accounted for at the moment. Something that hasn't happened since you starting sticking around. Strange, isn't it?” he finishes, plopping down beside her as she shrunk a little into herself in a mixture of shame and embarrassment for being found out. “i’m sorry, henry… it’s...” but it seems that it was not quite an accusation so much as an invitation of sorts. a small smile of sheepish pleasure tweaks the corner of her mouth and she nods, “if you don’t go lock your drawers, i doubt it’ll last, your having all your shirts, that is.”

and she stands, deciding that she might as well do that sooner rather than later. “might end up losing those flannel night pants, no less.” this time her eyes twinkling much as his had been.

“So what is it? Sleep time? More movies? Swapping stories? This is your party.”
“well, im going to go try and fend off a pj burgler and you’re gonna put in that movie… and we can go to bed after that?” only, really, it is a curious thing that either would think they might be awake after that at all.
