Deaf. Blind. They entered the world in a rather un-extraordinary way. Much the same as many pups before them had, and many pups after them would. The first was a golden ray of sunshine that had made his entrance to the world in a most simplistic of fashions. The second, a dark beast, shoved his way out of the womb, massive even in these first minutes of his life. But the third lingered, allowing a moment of respite for their mother to recover from that which the second had inflicted upon her. He stayed with the girl, waited until the time was right. Of course perhaps this was all predetermined, and they had little effect on the outcome, but in those brief moments of nothingness he believed that he was waiting with his sister, keeping her company as the first two kept each other company in the great beyond. Only when he was bidden did he promptly exit.

The trio was united for the first time at their mother’s abdomen, damp fur mingling side by side by side as they took their first drinks. Though they would not remember it beyond these fleeting moments, their squirming movements almost became synchronized in the way they kneaded against the flesh of their mother’s abdomen to encourage the flow of milk. But another thing they would not remember beyond this day was the yearning to know of the fourth – of their sister. Though they tucked into their meals with earnest, each boy felt a piece of them missing in not having her near.

It was only when her side pressed against the third boy’s, and he in turn leaned ever so slightly more against the second, and he against the first, that a sense of true contentment overcame them all. Viserion kept tempo with his brothers’ kneading, but pushed at different strengths to find the best pressure to get the milk to flow into his hungry mouth. Drogon simply drove his paws into their mother the hardest he could, gums gnashing against the nipple in his hunger. And Rhaegal’s weight casually shifted back and forth between brother and sister, content to drink whatever he could while having a continuous connection with his siblings.

While their births may have been quite ordinary, their existences would indeed be remarkable.
