Life had a funny way of making heroes. Sometimes they were big, strong warriors who could fight with the best of them and defend any pack. But sometimes a hero was made in the form of a small wolf, a runt who had little chance of survivial. But, luckily, his mother was not the loner she had once been. This hero had been born as a prince. He was nowhere close to the throne but maybe that wasn't his lot in life. Only time would tell where the young wolf would go and for now he was content to float aimlessly next to his brother within his mother’s womb.

Each day he was growing slowly inside Mom’s tummy, but his brother was growing too, faster and bigger. Soon, the poor runt had little room left to move and grow. Often he would kick out to get his brother to move, but nothing work. After a few weeks it seemed that even their mother had grown tired of the constant growing of her pups and soon there came a mighty push. The little pup was almost relived more than frightened to be in such a vast open world all of the sudden. He could move his tiny legs and it even seemed easier to breathe. A soft touch helps to comfort any fear he had and the child knows at once that Mom was there. His little body was moved to a place of warmth and… food!

With greedy little squeaks, the newborn suckled on the teat until his brother was placed next to him. For a moment, he could feel him there and wondered if he was going to take his food. But when nothing happened, the child returned to the milk source and let it fill his belly before he curled up close to Mom and fell into a deep sleep.
