Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

and power was contagious in my birth
second rise of the skeleton

It was as though his thoughts alone had summoned her.

She emerged from the ferns to his left, melting from the shadows like liquid mercury. Her body moved with the grace and poise of a huntress, and her pawsteps were just as silent. His first reaction was a low growl of surprise, although it faded from his bloodied lips almost immediately to be replaced by a sheepish look of apology. She was a steel grey in color, although she did host a few lighter shades along her chest and muzzle. His ears flicked to catch her words, when they came, and they were neither friendly nor otherwise. He narrowed his pale orbs at her, scrutinizing her as she danced just out of reach of his jaws, should they snap. To a wolf well versed in reading others, she was not too much of a mystery to unravel. She met his eyes almost flirtatiously, her voice taking on the cadence of a cajoler, but the difficulty she had in focusing on his face was duly noted. It reminded him of the fresh meat still bleeding between his paws and the other carcass, as yet untouched, that lay beside him. The blue-black warrior broke eye contact with the stranger to glance at the other rabbit, weighing the pros and cons of giving up his hard-earned catch. The flesh upon which he dined was fatty and filling, and the rabbit to whom it belonged had fed well that spring. Kneph would be quite unable to consume anymore this day. Without a word he bent his head to pick up his rabbit between his jaws before turning from the stranger and moving off aways. The brown lump of fur he had not yet touched lay where he had left it, quite within reach of the stranger.

Kneph watched her in his silent, understanding way, waiting to see what she would do next. Only after a good few moments did he return to the sweet fruits of his labor, his sharp fangs making short work of the venison. He tore slips of tender meat from bone, savoring the wild tang of herbs and the softer flavor of mushrooms that had been the creature's last meal. It had been too long since he had tasted rabbit, too long feasting on the relatively fishy flesh of water lizards, and he recognized just how much he had missed the sensations of the forest. Aithne was a good wolf, and smart but, in his opinion, her taste in real estate was slightly warped. Despite how much time he spent in the swamps, he did not think he would ever grow to love it as she did. He preferred to wander among the mangrove trees, enjoying their shade and the birdsong that always filtered from their dappled canopies. Thoughts of Aithne reminded him of his companion and, as he loudly crunched a leg bone between his jaws, he turned to regard her once more, hoping that she had taken up his unspoken offer and was feasting beside him. It had been too long since he had enjoyed the company of another living soul, and he was more than pleased with the progress of the day. His ghosts had not appeared in awhile, he was no longer alone and his belly was comfortably full. Also, the forest around him shone with an unimaginable beauty and the sweet music that filtered from above put him at ease.
