alternator issues IP: 66.249.93.173 Posted on January 24, 2015 at 05:25:34 PM by blackandyellow
Hi all,
I'm having some difficulty diagnosing a fault on my alternator. It is working as expected for about 10 minutes driving with lights, heater etc on. Then it starts to get a wobble on the dash voltmeter. It usually varies between 12 and 15 volts having started off very small. Once its started it doesn't stop even with loads off. Ideas I'd considered are regulator fault (I had a brush snap on the previous one which then caused a short to the casing of the alternator) so have replaced that. Or whether the alternator just isn't up to snuff and isn't keeping up with demand (I think it's a 45 amp unit) in running the zetec and Ford ecu plus lighting.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
