Things were so different now. Quietly I watched the bravado with which the boys play, tussling about outside the den. Rhaegal was almost always the instigator, and Viserion was quick to join in. often times it took a fair bit of goading before Drogon would react, but when he did his movements were fierce, even in their juvenile innocence. I saw much of their father in him, which worried me from time to time – but then Rhaegal would bite his ear and Viserion would find the perfect angle to thrust against his brothers that would send the trio falling into a pile of laughter. The scene always brought warmth to my heart.

I lifted my gaze from my young dragons, eyes scanning the horizon for Kalseru. My little princess seemed to have inherited the wandering heart so well known to the females of my family line. She always returned home before nightfall, but that did not mean I did not worry for her. Even so, often enough the boys would trail her and ensure her safety, and their youthful gallantry made me smile. No matter where my children wandered within Spirane, I knew they would always be safe, thanks to the watchful eyes of the pack. Jericho, Taliesin, Sleekwing, even Swallowbane, had been there for them from day one, and I knew that would not change.
