DIAMOND, Colonel James D. Jr. "CD" 89, passed away Saturday Jan. 31, 2015 at his home in Tampa. Jim was a native of Tampa and is survived by his four children, James D. Diamond III (Shawna), Sharie Diamond, Richard Diamond (Mary), Steven Diamond (Nancy); his niece, Sharon Collins; his beloved partner, Madeleine Courtney; her six children and a combined 25 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Jim enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1943, seeing service at Normandy on D-Day. In 1946, after WWII, he joined the Tampa Police Department and was a pilot in the 1947 Tampa Police aerobatics demonstration team. As a 1st lieutenant in the Army Reserve, he was deployed during the Korean War, returning to the police department after the armistice. He served with distinction in all divisions of the police department, becoming its first polygraph examiner. He attended Harvard University and was a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He retired as deputy chief of police in 1979. Jim had the reputation as a leader of the highest integrity and he will be missed by all who knew him. Services will take place at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave, on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Visitation from 11:30 am with services at 12:30 pm.
