It'd been another long day in what was turning out to be an exceptionally long week. After an exceptionally busy day at the clinic - with everything from babies being born to the passing of an elderly individual occurring all at once, it seemed - he'd gone back to Dr. Gupta's for tea, cookies, and a last-minute cram session to prep for his upcoming midterm. Danny was always grateful for the doctor's kindness and patience, and had wanted to stay longer and learn more, but his burning eyes and throbbing back told him it was time to call it a night.
He and the good doctor parted ways in sight of the castle with a handshake and a reminder from both about tomorrow's tasks. With a jaw-popping yawn and a companionable scratch for Solarius (who'd spent much of the day and the rest of their night sprawled in front of a cozy fire, and was feeling quite cheerful), Danny turned towards home; though his head kept reminding him he ought to stop by and say hello to Ellie - her small grave was located not far from there - his feet and body were ready to seek out his bed. They'd just started to amble off in that direction when someone - a large someone - stepped into their path, their features temporarily obscured. Danny took an instinctive step back, nearly tripping over Sol as the tiger pressed himself against his fairy. Unfortunately, this step brought the person's features into clearer view, revealing... No, it couldn't be. Why now? Why him? Danny gulped audibly. "H-hello, sir," Danny answered respectfully, trying to sound a little more confident than he was feeling. Danny had always had the sense that one had to treat Rhaegar much like one would treat a wild tiger: pretend you're braver than you're feeling, or risk being eaten alive. Danny caught the last portion of Rhaegar's comment, though, and let out a small squeak of distress. "You've been l-looking for me, sir?" |
