Why didn't the CT cat set up a home range in the Adirondacks?
If the CT cat had found a female anywhere along his 2000 mile trek, he would have stopped, mated with her, and settled in to defend his territory. The reason these young males are dispersing 400, 800, & 2000 miles and turning up in MN, WI, IL, MO, the Michigan UP and CT is because confirmed, breeding females remain all the way back in Nebraska and the Dakotas.
4 state wildlife agencies and a USDA Forest Service genetic lab collaborated to embellish evidence so 2 eastern states could deny native cougar presence.
