Grai felt good about Scarlett. He felt good about Soda. Naomi had gone off to the Crossing. He hadn’t seen much of Alethi lately though. He poked around in all the general hiding places looking for his step-daughter. He rather liked the term. He’d helped raised her much like he was going to with Scarlett. The big difference being he wasn’t there from day one.

“Alethi?” He called. He knew Soda had told her the truth about her father recently. He did understand some of Alethi’s anger then. On the plus side, at least Vesti had never lied about what Badr had done. Grai felt as if the girl shouldn’t be so angry at her mother though. It seemed a little misplaced.

He finally spotted the dun filly in one of the more distant clearings. He sighed.

“There you are, Alethi,” He said with relief. He’d been worried she’d run off without at least saying goodbye. She was a young woman now and could chose to leave if she wanted. He wouldn’t stop her. But he would want to know she was leaving. So he could at least tell her she could always come home. “I was starting to worry about you.”
