aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Only You Are the Life Among the Dead

_________________________________________________________________________

It had taken the teen almost no time at all to be at her brother’s side. Though the two were not blood related, they were as close as any siblings, closer than many she thought. She knew of families that fought endlessly, some that would even kill those related to them for selfish gain. But that was not what her and her small family was about. The three were closer than any family and had all grown together. Though Hellene was already an adult when she adopted the two pups, Khaleesi was able to see a difference in her mother. The she wolf who had taken in the two abandoned pups was not the same lupine that now looked after them. And the white femme knew that she would not be who she was without her mother’s protection and guidance and love. She knew that her mother would do anything for her two pups, and Khaleesi would do anything for her mother and her brother. She had never met a lupine quite like Destan. He seemed to be afraid of everything in this world, something that Khaleesi’s curious mind could not understand. But it did not make her love her brother any less. It just made her want to be there for him to protect him from all of the fears that possessed him.

The young femme would recognize the distressed sounds of her brother anywhere, and when she heard them once more she was flying through the trees. Her lanky stilts carried her through the trees that she now called her home at a swift pace, the familiar lands swimming by her. The femme’s heart sank when she saw her brother, looking like he was near death. And, when she thought it couldn’t get any worse, her mother’s words reached her audettes. Why did her mom think that this could have been her fault? Anger bubbled up inside of her, but she pushed it aside, for now. Her and Hellene could talk later, once Destan was okay. She was glad that Hellene had brought her brother something to eat, and when she stiffly walked to the group that had already gathered she was glad to see him picking his head up to nibble at the fish. Khaleesi pressed her form to her brother, trying to comfort him in any way that she could. Once the young brute began eating in earnest their mother began to groom him, cleaning his poorly kept coat.

Once Destan had eaten most of the fish he spoke once more, as if sensing the tension in the air between the other two members of his family. ”It’s not Khaleesi’s fault... I have done this to myself. Don’t be angry mother.” The young femme’s green orbs looked over Destan once more and let out a whine. This was not his fault, not entirely. Herself and her mother should have been able to see that he was not doing well and should have been there more for him, but they had not. ”Destan, this isn’t your fault. We should have been there more, to help you more.” Khalessi reached over to lick his ear, ”Brother, I’m sorry.” The group was joined by another female, one that Khaleesi knew, unlike the brute that she had seen when she first walked over. A tremor ran through her brother’s form as the young female approached and Khaleesi looked at her brother in concern, wondering what was wrong now, but not saying anything yet. When she approached she only uttered one confused word, “Hellene?” She was not sure if having this many lupines around would help Destan in anyway, but she was not about to tell Kalagalth’s daughter that she was not here. And she had already reacted hostility towards the other brute here so he knew her feelings about him being around her brother when he was in the state he was in. The large brute looked at her in confusion as he shook his head and answered her accusations. "I am King Kong and no, I did not hurt your brother. I found him like this and was asking if he was hurt." Her emerald orbs still glared at him, but didn’t say anything else negative towards him, maybe he was telling the truth.

Her mother spoke up again, addressing the other young femme that had joined the group. "It is okay, Blayre, this is King Kong, one of your father's oldest friends. He was... traveling... and recently returned. I think the last time he saw you was when you were but a pup, eyes still closed." Khaleesi was not sure if she should have addressed Blayre, but she was still angry at her mother and worried about Destan to really care about what was proper and what was not around the princess of Aurora. The white femme pushed the rest of the fish towards her brother, hoping he would eat more, but he did not seem to be hungry anymore. He spoke again to the group once more, his words bringing more concern to the sister’s mind. ”I... I just couldn’t do it. I don’t think... I will ever be ready for the world.” A sheepish smile appeared on his features for a moment before fading again, and Khaleesi’s green orbs looked at him with sadness. She didn’t know what to say to make her brother feel better, and she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. The femme may not be afraid of things in the world as her brother was, but trying to help him and make him feel better did scare her. This was the hard part of life and she was terrified of saying or doing the wrong thing.

Before Khaleesi could try and determine what to say to him, King Kong was speaking first, and she looked at him again, but without the hostility she had directed towards him before. Kong’s vocals were soft as he addressed the younger brute, "Nonsense. You just need more time and training. It's never too late to learn." Khaleesi smiled at him, glad that he had said something nice and helpful, that he had said something when the femme could not think of what to say. Their mother spoke next and Khaleesi tried to keep the glare out of her gaze. "In fact, my dear, I met a fae who, like you, is afraid of much. But she does well for herself and is trusting enough to allow others to help her when she can not do something by herself. I believe in you, my love, I will help you however I can.” The femme was about to speak up when Blayre addressed Hellene once more. “Is there anything I can do to help?” Khaleesi looked back from Blayre to her mother. She was not sure how to help her brother herself so she didn’t know what Hellene could say to the young femme, and so the white femme turned her attention back to her brother. ”Destan, you know that me and mom love you and that we are always here for you. I cannot lie and pretend that I know you are going through, because I don’t. I do remember how scared of everything I was for a little while when I had been kidnapped, but it got better. I’m better now and not afraid anymore. I know mom’s here to protect me and she will protect you as well. Just like I will. Our family is more important than anything.” Khaleesi was still mad at her mother, but she didn’t want to let that get in the way of helping her brother. She knew she would do anything to make him feel better.
