Danny made it to the party in time, immediately stopping to tell a guard - one of the few he didn't know personally, thanks to Flynn - that there was another person on the way. The guard gave a brief nod but didn't seem to really be listening (he was too busy staring at a particularly well-endowed matron in a rather revealing top), so Danny resolved to stand and wait for Torram himself. That was, of course, until she showed up.

"Hi Danny!" came a familiar voice from behind him, and Danny felt himself turn pink immediately.

"Oh, uhm, hi, Gemma," Danny answered, trying not to stutter. Gemma had just recently signed on as an apprentice under Mr. Trimboli; she was just a little older than Danny, and they'd spent a little time together since Gemma's teacher and Dr. Gupta were friends. Danny had found her to be extremely smart, funny, and very kind. She also happened to be exceptionally pretty, with curly red hair and the kindest brown eyes Danny had ever seen. She also had freckles (something he'd just discovered he found rather attractive) and the prettiest singing voice he'd ever heard. He'd never had a crush quite like the one he had on Gemma...

"Are you here with anyone?" Gemma asked, biting her lower lip and tugging at one of the ruffles on her pink skirt with uncharacteristic shyness.

"N-no," Danny managed to squeak out. He winced as he remembered he'd been set up on one of the blind dates, but spotted Millicent with Tommy nearby and decided he didn't feel too bad about his slip up... But when had his mouth gotten so dry? Finally, he managed to sputter. "Are you?"

"Well, I was supposed to be here with Tommy, but... I was kind of hoping..." Gemma answered, biting her lip again and meeting Danny's eyes. They both turned pink and looked away.

"D-do you wanna d-dance?" Danny asked, silently thanking his lucky stars that Dr. Gupta had taught him how to dance properly. Gemma, still the same shade of salmon has her dress, beamed and nodded. Danny's heart beat a thousand miles an hour as they both reached out tentatively, Gemma's hand slipping into his... And without a second thought for his best friend, Danny allowed Gemma to tug him away towards the dance floor.

Which is why, when Torram finally left Birch with a tub of ice cream and a movie, he found the doors to the event room locked. Groaning, Torram knocked as loudly as he could, but the band had struck up a particularly fun tune and no one heard. He was getting later and later by the second! Eventually Torram managed to work his way to a nearby window and, taking advantage of everyone's distraction and his own long limbs, snuck through without incident. Spotting Danny and Gemma nearby - and deciding that at least one of them should have a good time - Torram smiled a little before searching out his own date, Lani. Who was, of course, talking to one of the noble boys, and looking rather animated about it. Torram hesitated. Maybe it was for the best? But he didn't want her to think he was ignoring her, or had stood her up... Finally, with many pep-talks going about in his head, he straightened his shoulders and strode over to her.

"Hey, Lani," Torram said, sounding surprisingly confident despite his nerves (or at least, he hoped he did). "And... Tarquin, isn't it?" he added this bit pleasantly. "I'm sorry I'm late. I got held up..."
