"Nope, sorry," Birch answered, her smile growing just a tad mean around the edges as she flashed the number and watched Turic's face go white with pure greed. "Should've taken it when you had the chance, now I'll have to think of something else,." She leaned back again, eying him with consideration. Really, the rune stone was worth more than she'd offered even at first, but telling Turic that was a surefire way to convince him to steal it back down the line, and she didn't feel like watching her back after her baby was born. Finally, after Turic had squirmed enough, Birch smiled. "I know."

Reaching into a hidden pocket of her coat, Birch withdrew a small package wrapped in grubby paper. She slid it across the table, and Turic tentatively lifted a corner to take a peek. His expectant look turned to confusion almost instantly.

"Why would I want a grubby lump of... whatever this stuff is?" Turic grunted.

"That, my friend, is a piece of steel guaranteed to produce something of quality. Sell it or use it, but either way you'll be glad to have it," Birch said, tapping a finger against it and nodding. Turic's look of confusion turned to consideration; he'd heard rumors of a metal mage in the Commune, and knew Birch resided there herself. Perhaps... Perhaps this wasn't going to be such a bad deal after all.

"Alright, fine," Turic said, snapping the cord at a weak point and tossing the stone and cord. The piece of steel disappeared into his jacket before Birch reconsidered. "Pleasure doing business with you. Now if you'll excuse m-"

Big Toothless was still standing and grinning, immoveable as a mountain. Turic shot Birch a nervous look, and Birch waved the big man off with a smile. After Turic had slunk out the back, she gave Big Toothless a cheerful handshake - money discreetly changing hands in the process - and headed out herself. With a whistle, she called her beloved skeleton horse Mortimer to her side. She mounted carefully, then set off for her next stop: the Oasis.

She'd heard of several meetings going on in the Oasis, largely because they were now beginning to amass a collection of stones, and was able to meet with the King after only a short wait. Turning the stone over to him with a smile, Birch returned home tired, but happy to have enjoyed an adventure.
