For all intents and purposes, she probably should not have been there. Of course, she had done a rather good job at justifying it - by all means, her parents were not really that far away (Taviora was but a moments walk, surely!) and she was expanding her field of knowledge by exploring her surroundings. As far as she was concerned, she had no explaining to do at all. Well, maybe to be her father. To her mother, however? Likely not. In fact, her mother would likely enjoy the rollings fields and hills just as much as she had once she strolled out of the forests. Here, the sky seemed to stretch on forever in all directions! Whereas Taviora had been littered with leaves, the fields beyond were as pristine as ever with streaks of late blooming flowers and the whistles of sparrows and crows in the distance. For some time, she had merely drifted through the tall grass, climbing up one of the larger hills so that she might look out and beyond breathlessly. Her tiny chest heaved from excitement and weariness, having spent the last hour roaming and bounding abound, snapping at the tops of the grass and sniffing along the territory's surface. There were many strange smells, both lupine and foreign, that had kept her imagination ticking over with possibility. What kind of wolves lived here? They must be fast, she thought, to make use of the lay of the land - or! Perhaps they were slow and heavy, so much so that their sheer size had caused the trees to run away and the earth to move like water into hills. There were a lot of possibilities and she sat there grinning as she contemplated each new one. How long had she sat atop her little look out before she had come to? Her breathing had become even once more but as she rose to begin moving again, she could not help but yawn. Perhaps, she reluctantly admitted, she would need to return to her parents sooner than she had hoped. There was just so much more to explore! But, on the cusp of her turning back to where she had come from, she heard a sound that reminded her of Ame; a cry, feeble and quiet from the grass below. Her heart lunged instinctively, her drive to protect her brother pushing her to put away her plans until she could be sure something was not wrong. It couldn't possibly be Ame, right? She had to be sure... but, even if it wasn't... could she really say no? Tentatively, she moved down the hillside and back into the grassy fields below, her paws scuffing along the dirt as she sniffed out the origin of the sound. The scent was young, but not Ame she was sure: it was female and did not hold the same earthy smell of Diveen. A stranger? Still, her heart thumped loudly and her stomach dropped, a sheepish grin spreading across her lips. To think that she had briefly contemplated leaving! She had to help this stranger even if they had fallen silent now. "Hello? She called out into the beyond, taking a moment to pause and listen for some kind of response - anything, really. Faintly, she could hear the sound of breathing, and she tip toed forward until the grass parted to reveal the stranger. For now, Yuki simply waited and watched, her too-large ears erect and head tilted curiously. She was already intruding, she figured, so perhaps it was best to not intrude... twice as badly until she was certain of the situation. |
