I got my first flasher 35 years ago. This simple innovation immediately improved my ability to eliminate unproductive locations and find structure that would likely be productive. It was now possible to ride across a lake and easily locate reefs and other mid-lake structures. We would find the structure, look for landmarks and mark the spots on the the map. When we tried to fish the spot again we would go to the area criss cross the area until the flasher showed a depth change and popped a buoy on it. The latest technology has eliminated the need for hit or miss searching. It allows the fisherman to proceed to likely structure and get fishing. Sure you still have to get the fish out of the lake, but your chance is greatly improved.

IMO habitat loss caused by degradation of shoreline cause by development; pollution cause by agricultural, industrial and residential runoff; invasive species, etc., has more of an impact on fish populations than any hook and line guy with a sonar and GPS.

also the internet & the BMH (bait-my-hook) types that have no/nada 'skills haven't helped the Future of Fishing > but that seems to have went full-circle & true I-Guys w/'skills lead the pack for sure
