As the sun began to set, the beast stirred from the cave it had claimed as its own. Like a slumbering dragon he had rested over his treasure of wolf bones that have collected over the last few months of killing. His black eyes flashed open in the darkness. Night was his domain, when monsters like he ruled the forests and preyed on the weak. His ivory teeth flashed in the last bit of the day's light desperately trying to prolong the inevitable as he yawned. His massive form lifted from the ground and stretched out, claws raking against the cold stone floor. He rose and stalked out into the moon's embrace and it welcomed him into another night of death and darkness.
His grey mask looked eerie in the moonlight as the shadows danced across it. He was surely a sight to be seen, a monster straight out of all the bed time stories told to pups. The black markings around his soulless black eyes made it appear like a black liquid was oozing from them. His large, bulky body made him a force of nature, able to down the largest of prey on his own. He wasn't infamous like Tobias, for those who were given to glimpse upon his majesty did not live long to tell the tale of Eyeless Jack.
His black ears swiveled forward suddenly as a howl shattered the silence of the night, beckoning those of darkness and death to it. He turned toward the direction in which the howl came: the grassland pack Asteraia. The only reason he knew of the place was because the bitch who had stolen his tainted, black soul lived there. No matter how much he wanted to rip her stomach open and feast upon her kidneys some unnatural force stopped him. So he left her be with all her tasty looking pack mates, keeping as far away from her as possible.
But this howl was different, it was one of a usurper claiming the land as their own and welcoming others to come and feast their eyes on their prize. His curiosity was peaked, and, with no hunger on this night, he started towards the rolling hills.
It did not take him long, his natural stalking gait was quite quick despite his size. He moved in complete silence up behind two male pups who had gathered before a female, who could only be the one who called the monsters from the shadows, and a young pup beside her. He was also aware of another male near by, but ignored him because he found no particular interest in him. His interest was centered on the pups and the female.
He stalked up right behind the pups, looming over them in a threatening manner. It was hard to tell where he was staring because of his emotionless black pits for eyes, but he was staring at them. It took all of his restraint not to grab one of the little males and carry it away to feast on it's sweet kidneys and flesh. Instead, he looked to the female who now ruled these lands, staring into her and judging her. She was small and looked weak with her wounds, a wolf he would normally attack without hesitation. But she had to be worth something if she could win this pack and had the gall to call on creatures such as he.
There was a rumble in his chest as he moved away from the pups and to the shadows to sit and watch, his way of saying that he will stay, will see what this female and new pack has to offer. He will judge most harshly, and if it does not come up to standards he will simply leave and go back to his lone killing life style.
