In the shadows of two of the tallest peaks in the mountain range, rests the land known as the Forbidden Dale. The forested path that winds down out of the mountains is steep and treacherous to those who do not know it's dangers. The mountains meld into rolling foothills - filled with broad gentle slopes, long narrow ridges, and miniature valleys. Vegetation of all sorts is abundant and the runoff of all the surrounding hills funnels into a long, narrow lake in one of the largest valleys. Beyond the undulating and green foothills resides a dark and deep forest; the trees are so dense that it is dim even in the light of day.

The herd list has been cleared, but I will add back any herd members who rejoin here on Beyond.
July 9th - Updated the board. Rhaego has an open post in the lake for this breeding season for anyone interested. Also welcome Bastille whom will be serving the Dale in return for a home for himself, Larka, and their daughter Valerian. Rhaego is actively working to return Aileen back to the Dale.
December 7th - After unintentionally forfeiting his land about a year ago, Rhaego has gotten him land back! He will be working on re-establishing himself and the herd that he had. There's a little adjusting to do but Rhaego is back and more determined than ever!

when you see my face

For once it was quiet - peaceful even. It seemed as if the land around them was relishing the glimpse of life that the seasons had bestowed upon the horses that still called Mist Meadows home. The winter had been brutal, brutally cold and snowy. It'd been difficult even for himself - despite the dense winter coat and his husky size, even he had felt the painful bite of the cold as the snow gusted and piled up around them. He'd known that it could not have been any easier for the two mares who'd decided to live with him, for they were both much lighter built than himself and surely the cold would have passed through them much more quickly.

It had been some time now that Rhaego had last seen the red and white winged mare whom had arrived in his home disheveled and in need of a place to stay. Her absence had been noted with a touch of bitterness - he knew so little about her and her mysterious wings but there was something about her that had intrigued him. Yet he'd been somewhat skeptical of her and the gift of flight that she possessed - was she more bird or horse? It was almost fitting that she had become scarce in the midst of the fiercest winter weather - perhaps she was more bird afterall. Didn't most birds fly to warmer lands during the snowy months?

These idle thoughts flickered through the Swedish Draft's mind as he picked almost boredly at the new shoots of grass carpeting a valley. He itched to go out and scour the common grounds but he felt bound to linger a while longer in the confines of the Dale before making the journey to the Meadows and surrounding lands.

A glimpse of movement in his peripheral vision causes his head to jerk sharply upwards, his dark russet eyes darting to the distant sky just past a few knolls. Splashed white and great feathered wings was all he glimpsed before the figure swooped down out of his line of sight. At first he thought it to be Maribelle (the only winged equine that he knew prior to this moment), but as he ponders what he saw, he realizes with a good deal of surprise that the color and shape had been all wrong to be Maribelle. Tawny rimmed ears lace when the feminine voice calls out - with too much authority for his liking.

Great muscles bunch and gather beneath his mass and the stallion lunges into a barreling canter in the direction that the mare had landed. He is again surprised to see a horned beast standing alongside her, his stance guarded - as if he was uncomfortable being where he now stood within the borders of the Dale, clearly marked as Rhaego's own. The stud carried himself with an aura of regality and pride, like that of a leader - like Rhaego.

Rhaego was silent as he approached the two, his broody eyes shadowed by narrowed brows, ears resting firmly back. There is a brief moment where he studies the winged femme with open curiosity and bewilderment but he focuses quickly on the duo-toned stallion standing braced alongside the mare. "Since when do bachelor kings allow mares to do their speaking for them?" There was no threatening move towards the visiting pair, but the stallion's expression was one that was less than pleased and his gravelly voice held a challenging note.
