KONRAD
He knew he had met her before, but the memories were slow to come. He stood there with a blank expression, looking at her with earnestness while she also racked her brain for a memory of him. Eventually a light appeared in the depths of the girl's dark eyes, and Konrad watched this with unfathoming fascination, wondering what it was she saw in her brain. When she reached out to touch him he froze, but did not pull away. Her touch left a residue of warm on his skin.
'We don't look alike any more,' the girl proclaimed, and that was the last piece in the puzzle for him. Quite suddenly the memory flooded back, filling his brain with an image of himself when he was still small and dark, playing in the freezing waters of this very pool. This pretty young mare standing before him, her face alight with a bright smile, had been the very same girl he'd met that day. He recalled that they'd spoken about feathers and clouds, or something along those lines. It had only been about a year ago, but it felt like an age had elapsed since then.
Konrad smiled as if he'd been reunited with an old friend. "Yeah," he said, his baritone voice light and cheerful. "We met right here, almost. Look at us, all grown up now." He tilted his head, taking a moment to look her up and down, then did a little twirl for her benefit. "I got this color from my momma. Except I think I'm even lighter than her now." He chewed his lip thoughtfully. "What's your name?"
