eden enjoyed spring. there was nothing symbolic about the season to her, just a thorough enjoyment of the sun and the freshness it brought. it would soon trail into summer, which she only liked slightly better than winter (which she absolutely loathed), but for now, she would enjoy the sun and mild breezes and cool nights for as long as she had them. she was in the cool forest of staircase falls, laughing to herself as she leapt from one spot of sunlight to the next. she rarely allowed herself just foolish moments of pleasure, but it actually felt like spring on this day and she appreciated that enough to let go of the restrictions she often put on herself.
she could hear the gentle bubbling of the falls not far from where she was and it took her only a moment to decide to go to them. she trotted out of the forest with her head tossed up loftily - an expression not usually seen on the girl but if she was allowing herself one pleasure, why not allow herself all of them? she splashed into the cold water with a yelp. it was cold but the spring sun was still warm on her back and soon she was swimming and frolicking through the falls, a lightness she didn’t often experience warming her chest. it was a nice change, she decided, as she finally pulled herself out - dripping with cold water but decidedly happy. a few noises alerted her to another wolf and her head turned.
she shook the water off her skin and then trotted up the rocky banks, pebbles shifting under her paws. she soon came across the snowy girl and her eyes narrowed. she was known as a good judge of character and this girl gave her a wonderful feeling of potential. she plastered a grin on that was more teeth and less friendship as she approached, wet tail wagging. “hey there, miss,” she drawled as she reached her, standing at a respectful distance. “you alright there, sweetie?” the pet name dripped with condescending and she knew it. “you don’t look so well. need a little help?”
she wasn’t quite sure where her attitude had come from, but if her judge of the girl was right, this would be quite a fun encounter.
