Gabbar snorts but the sound is not one of irritation— instead, he uses it to cover his amusement as the boy utters another high-pitched squeal (a sound that will likely deepen once he has matured fully) and launches into another attack. The yearling has guts if nothing else. Gabbar finds this entertaining, and perhaps a bit admirable, though he is loathe to admit such a thing about an impure horse. Mutts aren’t supposed to be capable of the sorts of things his breed finds useful.
The boy turns and aims his hindquarters at the bay stallion, and Gabbar stands his ground. The yearling’s hooves aren’t wide enough, nor his muscles powerful enough yet to deliver a kick that would drive air out of the Arabian’s lungs or potentially leave a bruise deep in the thick muscles of his breast. There will be no harm in allowing the boy to land a hit, and the stallion grunts when the boy throws his hind hooves into Gabbar’s compact chest. “Başka ne?” he taunts the spotted child. The boy seems to have some grasp on strategy. Gabbar wants to see what else he is capable of.
So far the score is two hits for Gabbar and one for the boy. The bay pivots to stand perpendicular to his small opponent, waits a moment to allow the colt to see what he is up to, and then launches a quick cow-kick toward one of the colt’s hind legs. There is a little more force behind this move than his previous kick, but when Gabbar puts his hoof down he stands with his ears pointed at the smaller horse and waits to see what will happen next. He gave the child enough time to predict his next move, and as such there was ample opportunity to move out of range; the question that sits in the front of the Arabian’s dished skull is whether or not the colt will retaliate a third time, and how long Gabbar will feel inclined to humor his youthful assault.
