Lesiecki to Try for Breakout Year in 2015 MSA Racing Season
AJ Lesiecki has been climbing the rungs of the supermodified world for several years now, driving for both his family operated team in the #14 and the championship-winning team of May Motorsports. However, as of yet, fate has not allowed his true potential to shine through the dismal finishes that he has to show for the years that he has been running in the Midwest Supermodified Association ranks. All that is about to change due to a rapid swing in the performance of The Outdoor Option sponsored #77 winged roadster at the end of last season, as well as a changing of the guard resulting in the four-time MSA champion Trent Stephens going to compete in the ISMA ranks.
The twenty-two year old from Lorain, OH made a big splash in his rookie year of MSA competition, winning the Rookie of the Year honors with only five race starts and two top ten finishes within that time period. In 2012, he continued his path towards excellence as he finished 8th in the points standings for MSA with nine top ten finishes in just ten starts. 2013 seemed to be a bit of a slump as the family owned team went through a rough patch, only making it to a handful of races. They did still manage two top ten finishes in the season however.
AJ got the call from the May Motorsports team to drive their #77 for 2014. Naturally, the young gun jumped all over the opportunity to drive the team car of the 2010 MSA champion Charlie Schultz. The team, despite several fast runs, failed to gain any traction, as random parts failures and wrecks kept the fourteen year racing veteran from a podium finish. Even so, the #77, which was also driven by John Reiser on occasion, still managed a sixth place points finish, just eleven points out of the top five and AJ got his very first top five feature finish behind the wheel of the Frank May Garage/DEI machine.
2015 is poised to be an even bigger season according to the now veteran shoe. “I'm on the hunt for my first win and hopefully will get a few podium finishes along the way. I am looking forward to this upcoming season. We had some good runs last year, but due to some bad luck, didn't get the finishes to show it."
The people that crew on the #77 winged roadster that Lesiecki drives are most important of all according to the driver. “I’d like to thank Jonathon Lesiecki, Scotty, David May, Frank , and Jim for all the hard work they put in, and special thanks goes to the ladies Mary, my mom, and Lori May for all they do behind the scenes", finished Lesiecki.
Sponsors, as everyone associated with racing knows, make cars hit the track, and Lesiecki’s primary sponsor, The Outdoor Option TV show, has a lot of good things to say about the team. “The Outdoor Option TV show is proud to help AJ continue to pursue his lifelong dream of racing. AJ epitomizes the mission statement of our show by enjoying his passion and sharing it with his family whom he cares about most and, as we say, "making memories that will last a lifetime’”, according to show host Dan Reaser.
