His father didn’t know Romulus had followed him here. “Followed” was perhaps not the best term; the older stallion had thrown himself into the ocean, and Romulus had contemplated for an hour or so before throwing himself into the ocean as well, despite Dexter being long out of sight. On land once again, the younger man had hardly caught a whiff of his dad, but Romulus had little doubt. It was not so warm as it was back home, and there were many more trees. With his wet fur, Romulus ended up shivering just slightly until he dried.

With tired muscles the stallion moved from shade to sun and sun to shade as he explored. He wasn’t entirely sure why he’d followed Dexter. He didn’t know his mother, but he doubted this was where she was from. Even if he had any interest in looking for her, he wouldn’t have started here. Dexter talked about ‘the islands’ every once in a while, but he had only mentioned Romulus’s dam once, and his tone suggested the two had not gotten along during whatever time they spent together. If any. In any case, he certainly hadn’t followed Dexter for Dexter, so he continued to ponder his motives as he wandered.

The island’s forests seemed patchy and riddled with clearings, but the inconsistency was almost nice. The shade was a little too cool, the sun a little too warm, so having both brushing his back at the same time or within a few minutes of each other was nice. It felt like the shadows were petting him. With time he began to grow sleepy, and stopped his exploration when he heard rushing water.

The Falls were tucked into the shade, and Romulus, who was used to hot weather, shivered as the spray tickled his skin. Standing in the water was a young mare, still and quiet enough that Romulus didn’t notice her until he had stepped into the water and dipped his head down to splash around in it before he drank. He watched her with curious eyes, trying to figure out why he was interested in her when he usually didn’t notice others around him. Maybe it was because she was alone (he didn’t notice the pale mare under the tree, despite her stark coat). Maybe she was just pretty, or familiar, though he wasn’t sure why she would be familiar to him if this was the first time he’d ever set hoof on this island and she looked too young to have ever ventured off it.

The cool water lapped at the edges of Romulus’s white socks and chilled his throat as he drank. Dexter had more or less been put out of his head. The tips of his dark mane floated on the water, making little dents in the surface tension. He eyed the patch of sun further out in the water where the young mare stood. She looked nice and warm; maybe she’d be willing to share her spot. Romulus lifted his muzzle from the water and gave his mane a shake before whinnying, and stepping in the mare’s direction.

OOC: bleghh, I got rustier than I thought :C the muse is on my side, however, and if you’re interested we can bring Dexter into the picture for some drama! It could also just be fun for Mjar to meet her half-brother. If Jay doesn’t chase him off.
