On March 26, Carl Wiers, the Spafford Highway Superintendent, announced he would be retiring.
After 32 years with the town, I would like to thank him for a job extremely well done. Ten of those years as highway superintendent, which is one of those jobs that when something is done right, no one says anything, but the littlest thing goes wrong, boy, do they line up to complain.
I've noticed a few people complained about the roads not being bare in the winter and others about shoveling sand from there garage. If people want bare roads and clean garages, move to Florida.
I also would like to thank the rest of the crew, Jody, Mike and Red, for the great job they did as well. Seemed like you guys worked non-stop for weeks on end.
I know I speak for many others in this town that Carl's presence around town will truly be missed. Good luck with your new adventure, and God bless.
