They'd warned him that taking on a child would have its ups and downs, and that his life would never be the same. Rohmarr was man enough to shoulder the responsibility, and to roll with, as well as anyone was capable of, the joys and heartaches of being a surrogate father. But he hadn't expected to feel, along with the sense of duty and rightness that had prompted him to take the child in, a... well, he could only call it love. The child was a light, and though her presence in the barracks had brought him more attention than he was used to, or particularly comfortable with, he understood why the others felt it necessary to drop in for a visit now and then. They would speak with Rohmarr, of course, and often brought goodies for the lot of them, but there was no doubt in Rohmarr's mind that they'd come to see the child. He'd parted from her for only a few hours, and left her in trusted hands, but even those few hours seemed like too much. His arms loaded down with purchases - he'd spent more than he'd intended to again on things the girl probably didn't even need - he hurried home. Trouble, who was about as helpful on a shopping trip as Sekhmet herself would have been, scampered along behind him, stopping now and then to poke at a shiny rock or bit of trash as they caught his eye.

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Trouble asked boredly, though the gleam in his eyes and the playful tremble in his voice told Rohmarr he was being teased again.

"We've been gone longer than I intended already," Rohmarr grumbled. "Sekhmet will-"

"Be fine," Trouble interrupted with a chuckle, stopping to manipulate a small, smooth rock before hurrying after his bonded again. "The kid's probably surrounded by her adoring fans right now. Probably doesn't even miss us."

Rohmarr snorted, catching the slightly jealous tone in Trouble's voice. He'd commented before that Sekhmet was their baby, and therefore should like them best. Of course, he then quickly reminded Rohmarr that he didn't even like the kid... Usually while feeding said child bits of his cookie or teasing her with his fluffy tail so that she would pounce after it. They both let out a sigh of relief as the barracks came into view, Trouble scampering up Rohmarr - and nearly upsetting his purchases while he did so - so that he'd be out of the way. A quick jaunt up the steps and Rohmarr was home. His eyes settled on the girl surrounded - as Trouble had predicted - by her loving friends, and he felt himself relax. She was safe, and whole, and happy. His smile, which had always come slowly, formed on his face, his dark skin crinkling at the corners as he let out a laugh.

"Are we going to fight already, Kitten?" he teased, setting aside his purchases so he could accept the little demon from Ellen. "Don't you want to see what I've brought you, first?"

He gave a nod, slightly more reserved, to the other guards, but his eyes showed his gratitude when they turned to Ellen. She was the one he trusted most to watch the little girl, perhaps because she'd been kind to him even from the beginning.

"Did you buy out Martha's shop again Rohmarr?" teased one of the male guards, earning himself a small smile from the normally stoic giant.

"Did I do alright, Ellen?" Rohmarr asked. The woman poked through the bags, nodding now and then as she did so. Ellen had no children of her own, but she'd helped to raise many of her younger siblings and thus had more knowledge than most of the other guards when it came to such things.

"More than alright, I'd say," the woman said with amusement, pulling out what could only be a dress for the girl. Rohmarr felt his face grow hot and thanked his dark skin for hiding the blush, but the sheepish expression gave away his thoughts. The guards roared with laughter.

"Well, she should have something nice to wear to celebrations!" Rohmarr said, pouting just a little.

"Of course she should," Ellen answered soothingly, conveniently leaving out her own thoughts on the matter. Sekhmet would be adorable for all of the ten seconds she kept the sweet little dress clean!
