AMARANTHE

AMARANTHE

PASSWORD is amaranthe (no capital!)

The landscape is slowly changing and so too am I.
No longer boasting the fuzzy and cute attributes of a young foal but not quite a yearling either. I’m stuck somewhere in between where my legs are too short for my neck and my curiosity is too powerful for common sense. I no longer have a need for my mother’s milk and so I have found myself wandering further and further from the dam. I have always kept within a safe distance to her but today I have thrown caution to the wind and scaled the large mountain that protrudes from the middle of the territory.

I stand atop the mountain and cast my eye across the sea of autumn colours. The setting sun amplifies the golds and oranges and I can’t recall a time I have seen anything more breathtaking. I stand here, bathing in the beauty of the earth until I notice that the sun has almost completely faded, leaving the land below me drenched in shadows. Cautiously I scamper down the side of the mountain and towards where I had last seen mother.

With the light now completely gone and the moonless night sky taking centre stage, I can feel my little heart beginning to lodge itself in my throat. ”Mother” I call, trying to remain as calm as possible. ”Where are you?” I call again, a slither of panic beneath my words. When I hear no reply I push my dark, ash coloured body into a trot and wind through the trees towards heart of the territory. Surely mother would not have left the terrain without me, she must know that I have kept within the Falls perimeter.
