Perhaps changed most of all out of all of the packs is this place. It was stripped out of its forested home and now instead lays at the edge of an ocean. The vast sparkling eternity of the water lays to the south of the land, while the rest of the land is made of rocky outjuttings. Gone are the trees, and all that remains for greenery are the short shrubs that dot the paths in the rock, and the moss that grows thanks to the spray of the waves. Further toward the shore, barnacles are a plenty, and look to cut the pads of those who slip on the wet surface. These extend out into the water itself, and the tough land has multiple caverns scraped into it, providing ample dens for the wolves that live there. Depending on the tide, however, the lower caverns may flood, and the vicious swirling water may prove to be dangerous as there is a strong undertide ready to pull unsuspecting swimmers to their doom. Even the tide itself is powerful enough to push intruders against one cliff or another. The ocean does provide, however, plenty of food for those who brave the waters - there are many breeds of seals and sea lions, though the males that protect each of these are vicious and territorial. There are also turtles that come ashore to breed and to lay their eggs - both the adults and the eggs themselves can provide sustenance to the wolves. But they must take care - the water is deep enough to allow sharks to come to shore from the depths below. Those unwilling to venture the waves or wet their paws with the moist sand of the shore can find snakes and hares in the rocky outcroppings, but they must beware the Komodo dragon and other monitor lizards that perch upon the shore - they are swift and move in groups, not to mention they carry venom in their bite that causes immense pain, paralysis, and prevents blood clotting. This is not the land for the weak of heart or the weak at all really. This is Uyaraut - ‘The Diamond in the Rough’.

What is Dead May Never Die

Family. Duty. Honor.

Spring had come to the forest at last, it with it the lupines with Blossom seemed to be coming to life again. The brute had not seen the wolves in his pack being very active, but he could not blame them with the winter that they had had. Snow seemed never ending for a few weeks, and the air had grown colder and colder. But finally the temperature was rising and the snow had almost melted entirely, making the forest seem more filled with life than it had a few weeks ago. Just seeing the grass again helped to bring up the spirits of all the animals. With the weather looking nicer and warmer each day the pack seemed to be coming to life. Summer made sure to go out and do multiple border checks each day, but that was his duty as an alpha, he did not expect others to be doing that as well. And more and more scents were appearing and becoming fresher as the weather looked to summer instead of winter. Not only did it bring out life in the pack and the other beings that they shared the forest with, but it made the smoky brute’s mood drastically increase. It was easier to get out of his den each day and enjoy what he was doing with nice weather rather than the cold and snow.

Just like every morning the brujo pushed his way from his den, stretching his stiff limbs from the night’s sleep, waking up his muscles and joints. He began his morning as he always did, with a brisk walk around Bright Moon’s territory. His banner waved leisurely behind him as a warm breeze ruffled his spring pelt. His paws treaded through the familiar lands that he had been living in for so long now, not even needing to look at the path he was on to know where he was going and what obstacles would be in his way. As he reached the nearest border to his territory he paused to mark, making sure that his scent was always heavy here so others would know that they had come to a pack’s lands. As he continued along the border he noticed a rabbit, killed and lying there as if someone had left it purposefully. The first time Summer had come across one of these rabbits he thought it had just died somehow, but when he examined it he saw the faint evidence that it had been killed by another lupine and that it had not just died of natural causes. The scent on the hare also was familiar to his nares, Amalthea had been the one to hunt this creature down. At first he thought maybe she was leaving it for another time, but it was not buried or hidden as one might do, it had been left out, as if on purpose. Summer did not understand why she had done this at first but as the rabbits began to appear on a regular basis he wondered if there was more meaning behind it. The only thing he could assume was that she was leaving them as offerings to him and the pack, a gesture he found respectful and flattering.

As the rabbit offerings became a regular occurrence that Summer ran into on an almost daily basis he began taking them back to his den, not wanting to offend the new female by not showing gratitude. She left them often enough that if he really didn’t want to he wouldn’t have to hunt for himself, but the brute enjoyed the actions of hunting and would still do so, but still taking Amalthea’s rabbits and eating at least parts of them as well. If he wasn’t careful he would gain more fat and weight than he needed, and he always made sure to keep his body in good shape and well-muscled. After a little while of receiving the rabbits from the femme, more started to spring up, but with a different lupine’s scent on them. The scent was not foreign to him and this time it belonged to one that had been in the pack for some time now, Scion. The brute did not know much about the other male, he knew he had been in Bright Moon from the time before he was alpha, but other than that he was a quiet one that seemed to keep to himself. He decided that it would be necessary to make some time and meet with Scion, to learn more about the others in his pack and hopefully grow a bond with the more mysterious male. As the rabbits from Scion began to accompany the ones from Amalthea Summer made sure to take both, not wanting to offend either of his packmates into thinking he liked one over the other. Sometimes he would leave them out, letting others take them if they wanted or just leaving them to the scavengers, but the gesture was appreciated and noted by the alpha.

Summer was making his way around the pack lands, almost done the first border patrol of the day when silence of the morning was disrupted by a piercing scream. He froze for a moment, recognizing the frightened vocals of Amalthea from the other side of the territory. In an instant he was sprinting through the trees, powerful stilts carrying him swiftly through the trees and rocks, moving faster and faster as an inkling of fear hit him, wondering what could have caused her such terror. As he approached the spot she had called from the scent of Abendrot washed over him, and his fur began to bristle, anger washing over him at whatever the enemy pack had done to her. How dare they travel here and harm one of his own. With a hostile stance and plume held high, fur bristling in anger, he joined the group that was already there. Yellow orbs glanced around quickly to assess the damage, surprised to see that the femme was actually not harmed and that the wolves of Abendrot had not actually entered his lands. The brute forced himself to relax slightly when he saw that Amalthea was okay and not injured and to focus on what was actually occurring.

Scion was there, speaking to the alpha of Abendrot when Summer walked in, “The ruler of Abendrot and a subordinate of Abendrot, I presume? Please forgive my pack-mate – you seem to have startled her. King Summer should be here shortly to meet with you. In the meantime, if you would please excuse me, I will explain the situation to my pack-mate.” The other Bright Moon male began to head over to the frightened ess and as he walked by Summer approached him. ”Thank you Scion.” He did not say much at the moment, needing to focus on Kershov and his companion to see what their purpose was. He quickly trotted over to Amalthea first though, wanting to make sure the lightly colored femme was only frightened and not hurt again, knowing she was still recovering from a recent injury. He looked at Kershov for a moment, orbs telling him he would be with him in a moment, but his pack and the welfare of his wolves came before anything else. ”Amalthea.” He spoke softly to her, bending down so she could see only him. ”Amalthea, you’re oaky here I promise. I will not let them harm you, you are safe.” He whispered so only she would hear as he looked her over and seeing that she was in fact not injured. He rose, turning to Scion who was headed to her as well. ”Amalthea, this is Scion, another member of Bright Moon. You can trust him and he will make sure you are alright.” He nodded in gratitude to the other brute, hoping that a new face would not frighten the femme too much.

The smoky brute now turned his almost full attention to the other two lupines at his border. He immediately recognized the well-known alpha, Kershov, but then his orbs fell upon the other large grey brute. For a moment Summer did not recognize the one that stood beside the alpha, and just focused on addressing the alabaster titan. ”Kershov, I have heard much about you but have not yet had the opportunity to meet. I am Summer, Bright Moon’s newest alpha. What brings you and your companion to these lands?” He was polite the other leader, but apprehensive about why he had traveled to Bright Moon, when the two packs were known to be enemies. As he talked to Kershov he glanced behind him to see how Amalthea was doing, hoping that she had been able to calm down a bit. His gaze continued to the other brute beside Kershov, wondering why this one had been chosen by Abendrot’s king to accompany him. And then realization hit the brute, he knew this other male. It may have been many, many moons, but he finally recognized the other brute. His yellow orbs openly stared, finally gasping out the other lupines name. ”Grey Wind?! I thought you were dead…” He took a few steps closer, as if his brother would disappear before his eyes if he did not approach, bewilderment clear on his features. He turned again to Kershov, as if somehow he should have known that Grey Wind’s brother was so close. ”How do you know my brother?” His stance now stayed neutral, a few feet away from the brutes at his border, trying not to let his personal life get in the way of the politics that were going on.

OOC: so for those that don’t know Summer and Grey Wind are brothers and had no idea each other were alive, so more drama can be added =)
