"Rohmarr, I'm not helpless!" Birch said, torn between exasperation and amusement as the massive guard carted her heavy packs up the stairway for her. "I'm sure you're dying to get back to Sekhmet, and I can handle-"

"They'll have my head if I let you carry these behemoths," Roh answered. He gave her a sheepish smile, tacking on a "ma'am" for good measure. She was his captain, but she was also his pregnant captain, and since she was usually too stubborn to ask for help, her men had found that it was better to just do whatever it was she needed and take her grouching in stride. Birch rested a hand over her belly, which was finally growing large enough that it was impossible to hide her condition, and rolled her eyes at him. She never could tell Roh off very strongly, he was just too... steady.

"Well, take them over to the captain's office, if you're so insistent, and then go cuddle that baby of yours for me," Birch said, smiling at him now in thanks. Roh ducked his head a bit, but not before she saw the cheerful grin on his face, and trotted off to follow her instructions. Birch's smile softened, shaking her head a bit as she watched the giant retreating. Roh had been so closed off when he'd arrived; a hard worker, of that there was no doubt, who was truly dedicated to doing what was right, but he hadn't socialized overly much. It wasn't until he'd adopted a friend's child that she'd seen him opening up, and usually the only emotions he showed came to the surface when speaking of the girl he so often called "Kitten". Knowing she was cutting things a bit close - the king would only be at the Castle for a few hours to finalize some paperwork before returning to the Oasis, and had generously agreed to meet with her before he departed - she hurried up the steps towards his office. There, one of the guards posted at the door announced her, and Birch stepped through. She typically bowed to the king, but her belly made the task a bit difficult, so she gave a respectful salute instead, figuring he'd probably understand.

"Thank you, Your Grace, for agreeing to meet with me," Birch said politely, her smile warm. The more time she'd spent around Arthur, the more she'd felt completely right with her decision to join the guards, and to protect Shaman and its families. "I first wanted to confirm that cleanup at the Ruins has been going well, though I'm sure you've already read the reports on that. It's actually the Ruins I wanted to speak with you about, if you have a moment."
