Jarrett Emmerich:
Sandusky Speedway Season Opener Slated for Saturday April 25th
This Saturday, April 25th, the stars and cars of the Sandusky Speedway's four weekly racing divisions will compete for top honors in the 2015 season opener for the historic half-mile automobile racing facility. The race, named after Hall of Fame stock car ace Dick Ensign, will pit Modifieds, Ohio Stocks, Street Stocks, and the Hobby Stocks in heated battle for top honors on the mildly banked oval.
The headliner modified class will include Tim Ensign, the son of the race namesake. Ensign is a two-time modified champion at the speedway with more than thirty wins at the Perkins Avenue facility.
When asked about his father and the family’s dedication to racing and the Sandusky Speedway, Tim commented “I learned it all from him. His car number was 05. That's because I was 5 years old when he started racing and the # 5 was taken so he went with 05. I never missed a race or a night in our little one car shop.”
He continued, “One of my proudest moments is when I stood with my dad as he was inducted into the Sandusky Speeedway Hall of Fame. He taught me how to stretch a dollar racing and where to spend the ones I saved.”
The Digital Yalo Ohio Stock division will also flood the gates of the facility this weekend for a twenty lap feature event. Recently, Clayton Karl, driver of the #21 Tony K's Bar and Grill template-bodied car, talked with speedway media director Jarrett Emmerich about the Ohio Stock division. Karl, along with his brother and 2014 champion Jerry Karl, will compete with countless other Ohio Stock drivers in order to decide who will become the latest feature winner in the illustrious history of the Sandusky Speedway season opener.
The Milan Automotive Street Stock and Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stock Front Wheel Drive divisions will also be in attendance to kick off the speedway's 66th season. The pit gate will open at 3 pm, with hot laps starting at 4. Qualifying will commence at 5:30 pm, and racing will start at 7. Noteworthy changes for the 2015 season include the elimination of the decreasingly popular four-lap dash and the return of crack of the whip races for all four weekly racing divisions.
