Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

The closer that they came to a time in which the children would be forever loose upon this world meant the more agitated Astrid became. Zaphkiel was careful around her now for even in her grumpy nature she had not been quite as vicious as she had been of late and he did everything he could to not push her. It was bad for the pups, so he had heard. He hunted despite how she chafed beneath the restriction of her condition and he filled the den with food and pelts and whatever was necessary. Often he peered into their hollowed out tree-den with a sort of pensive look, debating whether two more bodies could fit in there and for how long. Maybe once the pair were old enough he could craft them their own den nearby so that he would get the den back with Astrid and would be able to stretch out again. She sighed woefully at times which always made Zaphkiel feel rather bad since he had gotten her this way after all but he put on a brave face and told her it would be as easy as... well who knew? Hunting? He wasn't quite sure.

He slumbered in a deep sleep, his mind drifting off to an auroch the size of a large draft horse and the adrenaline that coursed through him as he figured out ways to disable the poor beast. Imagined dragging it's huge body (which was, of course, impossible in real life) back to the brilliantly bloated figure of his mate. Yet the auroch moves in his grip and its horn stings as it pinches his skin and Zaphkiel lets out a startled yelp and jolts upright, likely slamming his face into Astrid's at his swift movement and peering at her in embarrassment. He senses the change almost immediately. Fur begins to stand on end as if electrified and his pupil widens as she chases him out of the den with his tail tucked between his legs in a bewildered moment. What in the hell!

For a few minutes he stands awkwardly outside their den, his ears intent on catching each sound of her paws scuffing the ground and the small grunts of air until the whines and the growls begin. It sounds almost like she is killing something in there and his ears lay flat and to the sides, his one good eye swollen with his pupil as he begins to pace back and forth, both reflexively tensing and relaxing with each noise he hears from her. Was this normal? Would it all just come plopping right out? He was morbidly curious at how that worked and went to peek his head in only to be met with that fierce some growl and immediately yanked back. Maybe it wasn't worth seeing.

Pups! They were going to kill his mate! No, he was killing his mate cause he had put them in there! He switches between these thoughts and they are like juggernauts, trumping everything until finally he hears a moment of relief and silence and he peeks back in. Astrid lays in exhaustion with a pup and she smiles at him. Instantly he smiles back, haunches tensing as if to come in except she does say come in and he wasn't sure she was sane again yet. "Asariel," he breathes and nods in approval and then things begin again and he retreats.

Okay, after this all would be fine. "Just one more," he intones into the den as if to try and calm her down. Asariel was so small that one more wouldn't be bad, he thinks, relaxing at the idea now. Vortigern, she says after the second one comes and he grins suddenly, tail whipping back and forth as he lays down at the den entrance. "A son and a daughter. We have done good," he says with a sigh of relief.

Until her sides begin rolling again and she peeks at him. His smile falls away, his jaw opens, and he gapes at her. "Are you sure this isn't just some after effect?" And perhaps he should NOT have said that mid-birth, his voice almost suspicious as if she was playing some joke on him but now, next comes another son. Tiny, small, but just as beautiful as the others, if one can think the slimy creatures beautiful when they first arrive. "More than," he chokes out to her, clearly shell shocked at having three when he was CERTAIN there were only two.

Her words cut off and his ears fold back as he whines suddenly, fearful that this was leading where he suddenly thought it was. No more space in the den. No more cuddling with his mate. Just... sleeping outside. But each time his eye fell to his children a wave of possession grew about him, a protectiveness that eased the worry in his mind. Another daughter, an equal split, and yet he waits with tense muscles to make certain that he wasn't going to have five instead of four. Come see, she says in her clearly exhausted manner and he bolts into the den like a fox into a nest, moving to push his muzzle against her own and lick her cheek before sniffing each child in turn.

They smelled... like home. That scent about them was wholesome and relaxing and so perfect that if he had harbored anymore doubts they were swept away. Each one earns a long grooming from him even if he grimaces at the faint taste of whatever the hell that was that still tried to cling to their small bodies. "They are.... there is no room," he sighs quite suddenly before sinking to his haunches in an awkward position against the wall of the den with the pups directly as his feet and Astrid's head. "What are we going to do with four of them?" And his voice, however happy, seemed completely baffled.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
