Rhaego was not really sure how to get a foal to stand, especially if they had no desire to do so. But at least he knew the most important step was for the little filly to get her hooves on the ground and her long, spindly legs to support her weight.... even if it was one end at a time. He frowned heavily when the newborn merely rocked forward into a heap as a result of his less than gentle nudge. He stared critically at her, searching for any obvious faults that would prevent her from standing - skeptical that there was any hope for her. A rustle of movement causes the stallion to raise his gaze as a very fatigued Aileen rises valiantly to her feet.
Rhaego's contemplative eyes narrowed slightly upon her, not in an unfriendly manner, but neither was his expression very enthusiastic. He exhales in a slow, deep sigh - watching attentively as the fawn-colored nymph mimicked his own actions, nudging at the foal in an attempt to get her to stand. At this point, Rhaego held little hope of the newborn surviving, yet he took a step back to allow Aileen room to do as she wished under his careful watch. He is not surprised to see the newborn tumble into another heap, but the stallion's ears flick forward when he notices the mare adjusting the positions of the foal's legs. Then much to his honest and clearly evident surprise, the next time that she nudges her, the foal stands. Only for a second, but she does. The brute cranes his head back, continuing to watch in silence as the two try again - and this time, the little filly seems to catch on, mustering what little strength she held to manage a few unsteady steps. Rhaego found himself enraptured, his dark eyes flicking to Aileen then back to Calandra. Her efforts were marked with several more falls - but now, it was Calandra herself that picked herself back up from each tumble. Then finally, she reaches her goal at her mother's flank and begins to nurse. Something tugs at Rhaego, but he heaves another deep breath, effectively squashing whatever sentimentality struggled to rise up within him. Aileen though seems relieved and much more content which leaves him satisfied, at least temporarily.
A small noise, the rustle of foliage and perhaps the snap of a small branch commanded Rhaego's attention quite abruptly at that moment. The sound being much closer than the array of sounds, it alerted him that someone else had found them. Perhaps if he had not already been so tense and keyed up from Aileen's calls of distress, Rhaego may have thought that one of his other mares had heard the whinnies as well and come to investigate - but that was not the case. The burly stallion 's ears flatten into his frosted ebony mane instantly, a sour and irritable expression crinkling onto his face as he spun around, braced and tensed with every intention to send the unannounced guest away.
The stone-washed gray stallion stood a short distance away, peering at them from around some trees. Rhaego snorted, turning fully so that Aileen and her newborn were at his back and this stranger was in his full view. Arching his thick neck, the Swedish Draft took a threatening step forward - on the cusp of launching himself at the intruder.
"Barging into my land without permission?!" Rhaego's rough, gravelly voice snapped with anger, teeth bared. Finally! This was the release that he needed!
"I do not see sorry in trespassing." He amended, the movement of a painted figure standing warily behind Storm Cloud catching his attention briefly before he refocused his attention, broody eyes blazing with restraint upon the grullo stallion.
"You are the father." Rhaego comments dryly, acknowledging that he understood why he was here and also that it bought him no sympathy.
"You have said your words. Now, LEAVE! MY home... MY mare." A deep gutteral sound rumbled deep in the stallion's wide chest, his heavy muscles coiled and ready to explode into action at any second should the strange stallion dare to not heed the commands. This was Storm Cloud's first and only warning, for it was obvious that Rhaego did not take kindly to trespassers... especially with his mare already so worn and exhausted there with her newborn.
when you hear this song and you sing along but you never tell
then you're the fool, I'm just as well
