From the moment her story began, Rhaegal's mind was churning with thoughts and questions. It turned out this would not be a tale about a liar, but rather an instrument called a lyre that someone called Apollo had given to their son. Almost immediately the young prince's head tilted to the side in confusion; what was an instrument, and why didn't this wolf Orpheus just use his voice to make music? But as she continued, Rhaegal thought that he would like to have such a thing, because if he could charm the other animals on the mountain it would make hunting the easiest thing in the world. Maybe he could even charm some small animal to do something to impress Bastille. What, he wasn't really sure of, but he would think of that later. The story shifted then to love, as it seemed that all stories did, and the black bridge of the prince's nose wrinkled slightly. Would this just be another story about one wolf of ignoble birth having to overcome the wishes of another wolf's parents so they could be together? It turned out that the couple didn't have any initial troubles and were married right away. That pleased Rhaegal, and his head straightened up as Anemone spoke of how their bliss would not last long.

Some other male had come along and tried to steal Orpheus' mate, and Rhaegal's eyes grew wide when she told him that Eurydice was bitten by a snake and died. The boy's tail twitched as Anemone paused, questions about instruments forgotten; all he wanted to know was if Orpheus got his revenge! If some other brute chased Bastille and got her killed, he would make them suffer! But Orpheus had chosen instead to go to the underworld and Rhaegal's jaw dropped open ever so slightly. He had to remind himself that this was just a story, and one about the stars no less; it wasn't as if he could waltz into the underworld himself and visit his deceased grandparents. That just wasn't the way the world worked.

His tail began to wag back and forth as Orpheus charmed the leaders of the underworld and was allowed to retrieve his Eurydice from death. The condition was that he could not look back or he would lose her again. "Why would he look back? I hope he's not that foolish." Rhaegal asked, musing over the idea to himself. That would just be stupid, looking back when you've already got what you came for. What would be the point? Still, he had begun to understand how these tales usually went, and if his suspicions were correct, Orpheus was about to do something very stupid.
