The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

putting a spin on loyalty

She doesn't seem to like what I told her about flying, her lips tugging into a frown before she tries to lick my jaw. She is successful in her endeavor but I am not one to accept affectionate gestures from anyone save my shadow knight so her gesture is instantly dealt with, my paw striking out at her nose, hitting it full in the center. It seems to get the desired results, her expression looking disoriented like she doesn't know what hit her. I sniff at the thought as I straighten up but it seems she's unable to get up right away, her body instead taken over by a serious of sneezes that sends her rocking back and forth. My head tilts, one brow rising in puzzlement as she swings her paws around, her eyes growing distant for a moment as if distracted before I speak and she turns her attention back to me. She does eventually get back to her paws and I shrug off the whole sneezing thing. She's a strange one, alright.

When I ask her questions, she seems to contemplate for a minute but there's a troubled look on her expression like she's expecting disappointment. Odd that she should care how I feel. She tells me her name is Lenore and that she has no home. I guess that's all I'm getting for where she came from. She then finishes, telling me she doesn't know her past, only that she didn't fit in. My ears flicker, expression almost bored as I consider my options. Okay so she doesn't belong to a pack, at least not anymore, and she's looking to belong. Since she doesn't really seem to have much in the way of standards, it might be fairly easy to gain her loyalty and therefore I'll have my own little secret weapon. How innately clever of me. "Well Lenore, I am Enigma and you don't have to be an outcast if you stick with me." There, that was pretty nice of me, right? When I ask if she's eaten, she pipes up quickly and my smirk grows.

"Then follow me." I turn to go but when she tilts her head, I see something there in her expression, maybe a flicker of her true potential. And then the words fall from her mouth like fresh honey. I blink first, unsure that I heard her right. In need of our carving? Who taught her to speak like that? My tail flicks behind me. "Well let's see, shall we?" I know where to look for prey so it's not too sooner after that I come upon the scent of a lone doe. She must have gotten separated from her herd and now she's the fool wandering the woods around Abendrot, calling out loud, hoping that a buck will hear her. Well, he's not the one to hear today. I follow the calls easily, glancing back to make sure she's still with me. When I spy her through the trees, I crouch and motion for Lenore. "I want you to focus on her legs. Bite and bark and keep her distracted. If you manage to bite a leg, jerk your head and pull, try to cripple her so she can't run. I'll focus on trying to take her down so we can get a kill shot. We'll be eating fresh venison tonight."

I give her a sly grin. First I'll show her attention and spoil her a little to gain that loyalty I desire. Once I've got that, the sky is the limit. Slowly I can corrupt her mind and make her into a doll of deception. With her cute looks and her boiterous personality, she'll melt anyone's defenses and leave them utterly and pathetically helpless when someone comes to kidnap or kill, depending on our mission at the time. She'll be perfect. Plus there's always the idea that I can stop by Saw Tooth and get a healer to train her so she'll even be my own personal medic. Just think...I'll have the most sought after weapon in all of Abendrot, and they'll have to go through ME to get to her. Perfect.
