If you go up to the Western hills, where people are very familiar with bobcats and what they look like, and say "there are no mountain lions in Massachusetts", they will outright laugh at you. They have been seen for decades, and of course as many of you know, that booklet by Ralph Pomeroy from 1948 to 1955 detailing his encounters with "the big cats" clearly shows this. Ralph hunted bobcats for the bounty, and clearly knew what one looked like. But Helen would tell you he was "unreliable". The probability of truth for a guy like that far outweighs someone in the Midwest theorizing that we have no mountain lions in Massachusetts. We all know we do at least in small numbers (at the moment). As far as them being dangerous, bear attacks per capita far outweigh cougar attacks out west where mountain lion populations are high.
