Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Taytim

Taytim listened quietly to what Rodrigo had said, surprised that he had shared something about himself with her. For their travels and time together she had let him choose what to tell her, deciding not to pry, or even venture too deep in concern for offending the stallion. She figured that he would share his history with her in time, if he chose, and if not he would continue to entertain her with the superficial adventures that told of where he had been, instead of the deeper ones that told of how he had become.

Her ears flicked briefly to Ysabell, the thoughts ticking off the many reasons why some stallions would not like being surrounded by women swiftly going through her mind before flicking back to Rodrigo as he shared even deeper. The flash was fast, but the young mare picked up on the sadness he had felt. Reaching out she touched his shoulder gently. “Your mother must be proud of you. Earning that much respect from a herd that possibly normally would not trust outsiders.” Her eyes flicked to Ysabell, hoping she was catching on to the jests the other mare said. “Even if the temptations in those herds are enticing.

The brief pause let them walk in pleasant companionable silence until Rodrigo spoke again. At first a huge grin spread across the mare’s face that fell slightly as she thought of her belly that was about ready to burst. For the first time she felt a strong twinge of fear race through her body. Sbe was suddenly scared and the desire to run away exploded into her mind. “I don’t know.” The tones that came from her were uncharacteristically flat as her mind started to race with the panic and fear. “Do you think there is a way to tell?” Her demeanor was falling fast and she tried desperately to save it. “I don’t care which it is, I would raise it the same no matter!” The attempt to keep herself light and cheery was failing as fearful thoughts began to plague the first-time mother. She closed her eyes and let out a deep breath, trying to settle the feelings in her stomach. “I’m scared, Rodrigo.” Once again her eyes flicked to Ysabell, who had not been shy about pointing out Taytim’s youth, weakness, and naivety. Her confidence was shaken when it came to the wellbeing of the life that was growing inside her.

I’m scared I will not be able to show it how rich the world can be; and I’m scared I will not be able to protect it from the things that will hurt it.
