Nim is using an old bridge to cross the River Twinge in Augury Vale when it collapses beneath her. "Duchess" (Linnea) is nearby and sees either Nim or her possessions.

Calvin is at the Silver Cove where Birch is on lookout duty/patrol, when a cliff rockfall draws both of their attention. A volley of barks alerts both that a dog has been trapped in the rockfall, but it will take two people cooperating to free it.
