shipwreck in a sea of faces

As soon as Danny saw Thoth in the doorway, a grin split his face. Danny considered the older boy to be one of his very best friends and always enjoyed talking to him. He also hoped that having someone closer to their age would help Rhea feel more comfortable, but all it took was one quick peek at his student to find the opposite was true. Poor Rhea! Danny took a step back so that Thoth's little familiar - who wasn't quite so little anymore, it seemed - pounced for Solarius. Sol, trapped between Danny and Rhea, tried to maneuver himself into a more play-friendly position, where he could both play with Morv and protect his little linsang friend, but ended up bumping Danny in the knee instead. Dalai abandoned ship, causing Danny to wince as he climbed up Rhea. That probably didn't feel very good at all. Danny patted Rhea's shoulder, not far from where Dalai sat, and was about to make introductions when his student finally spoke up.

Coughing to hide his laughter (Eddie?), Danny hurriedly explained. "Rhea, this is my friend, Thoth, and his familiar Morveren. Thoth, this is my friend Rhea and her familiar Dalai."

"Dalai's nice!" Sol said to Morv; even though he'd never heard the aqua fox speak, he knew she had at least some understanding of things. Hopefully Dalai would get over his fear soon, because Sol was certain the three of them could have all sorts of fun! Sol wiggled through the gap and into the house ahead of the others. "And Dalai, Morv's real nice too. She's fun!"

Danny followed with another smile. "What are you doing here, Thoth?" he asked curiously, figuring the boy and the god were discussing something fun.
