x. (recycled post, vampire as i haven’t played animals in a long time!) Like a true predator, she senses the coven master’s presence behind her before she even turns around; it is a primal instinct, the hairs on the back of her neck prickling ever so slightly as if in warning. She turns swiftly, a graceful blur of cream and blue denim until she is fully facing him. Her sea-storm eyes analyze him as if he were a specimen beneath a microscope, leaving no detail unturned, including the strong aroma of fae that permeates the air as he enters - after all, it is only her second time meeting the leader of this particular coven and 1008 years of survival had taught her to be cautious of even one’s closest acquaintances. Despite her swiftly acquired rank in his hierarchy, she doesn’t forget that he is essentially a stranger, and she an outsider inserting herself into his close-knit household.

”Thank you, Spencer,” she says, her words cool and clipped. She bobs her head in polite recognition of his bow, a crooked smile finding its way to her wicked mouth. She is more tense than she should be, her eyes darting towards the door in search of the other vampire that was to join them, Calla.

A frown creases her brow but she brushes Calla’s lateness off, turning back to Spencer as his voice breaks the small silence that had fallen between them. ”Please, take a seat,” he says and she obliges despite the urge to remain standing, if only to keep him from suspecting her of any hostility - she might be bitter and moody, but she knows better than to go around pissing off her coven leader. And unlike the last one, she has a feeling that Spencer is no rookie to ruling. She wouldn’t walk away from killing three of his little darlings, not nearly as easy as she’d walked out on her previous coven.

She is quite comfortable waiting in silence for their third companion to arrive, but Spencer seems determined to make small talk between them. She can only presume it is to try and figure her out, this stranger who wandered in with high ambitions, immediately seizing rank. Though she knows he is right to do so, she still can’t help but feel annoyed by the prying question and his haughty demeanor - she almost feels as if he is sizing her up, toying with her in a way. The predator inside of her wants to tell him to mind his own business before it got minded for him; the survivor in her made her hold her tongue and thank her lucky stars that her mind was impenetrable to telepathy. With vampires, you never could tell what little tricks were hidden up their sleeves.

”I left my maker to join a new coven who was travelling to America. After some time, I realized it wasn’t going to work out between us and I needed to find myself a new place to call home. I heard of your coven while traveling up through California and liked what the whispers had to say.” She pauses, movement outside of the door alerting her to Calla, who was slipping into the room, strategically placing herself between Claudia and the exist. On the inside, she felt a predatory rage begin to claw at her stomach like bile; it isn’t in her nature to accept the feeling of being cornered, and yet here she sat like a mouse in a trap with two of her new coven-mates placed between her and the only exit.

Her cold eyes lock on Calla and for a moment there is a flash, a challenge to the younger vampire. It fades quickly and she gives a strained smile, barely able to contain her tongue and the sarcastic retort dwelling upon it. ”Pleasure to meet you,” she says, and though it isn’t necessarily a lie, it is hard for her to put much feeling into the worse right now with her back to a wall.

If she were closer to the two, she might not feel so challenged. As it were, her instincts scream attack. Her logic, on the other hand, holds her steady.

That’s the lovely thing about being so old, she thinks, mentally talking herself down - shoving the rage back into its confined box in the back of her head. Logic trumps impulse after so many years of practice.

She is trying to build bridges with this coven, not burn them before construction’s even begun..

”I don’t expect the two of you to trust me blindly,” she says, her words blunt and cutting straight to the heart of things. ”But I can assure you that I am more than capable of protecting this coven and progressing it, as well. I will respect the both of you; all I ask is for the same.”

Her eyes rest on Spencer now as she addresses him directly, her voice soft. ”I only expect to get one chance from you. I will not let you or this coven down.”

She is silent then, her gaze focusing on Spencer before flickering back to Calla as she attempts to gauge their reaction. Will they believe her? For once, she’s being sincere - she needs a coven and the last thing she wants to do is return to Marcus’ brood. This is her last chance to be free of him. She can feel her desperation, a fist around her throat intent on choking her.
