The third Family Fun Night / Kids Night of the season at Lorain County Speedway on Saturday June 13 was highlighted by a Trailer Race. The Trailer Race was held following the evenings feature races and for good reason. There were trailers, boats and campers adorned with cardboard boxes and clutter of all kinds. The Trailer Race is like a rolling demolition derby with the object being to smash the trailer off of the other cars in the race.
The fifteen lap Charger feature was up first tonight. The front row of Ed Sedlacek and Robert Zelenka led the field to the green only to have a multi car spin in turn four, bringing out the caution flag. The restart saw Sedlacek and Zelenka run side by side for two laps until Dan Smith took the lead just before another caution. Smith and Brandon Halcomb were the front row on this restart with Smith getting the lead. It was Smith, Jim Harkins, Halcomb,Trent Aslaksen, Doug Voldan and Mark Fisher the top five. Harkins took the lead on lap eight and spun with two laps to go. The restart would be Harkins and Aslaksen in the front row. Harkins led folowed by Smith with two laps to go. Harkins would go on to win his second Chargers feature of the 2015 season.
In the Grand Nationals feature, Bob Lusetti led followed by Parker Ennes, Ed Kerman, Tim Gullatta Jr. and Jerry Drellishak. Lusetti held the lead at the halfway mark as the running order remained unchanged. With one lap to go, Kerman spun in turn one,bringing out the caution flag. After a bad start, the field settled down for the restart. It was Ennes with a narrow lead only to lose that advantage in turn four giving Bob Lusetti his first Grand National feature win of the season.
The thirty lap Modified feature was up next. The front row was the number sixteen of Tim Gullatta Jr. flanked by the number sixteen of Rick Groetsch. Groetsch led lap one before a tangle on the front straight. There would be a complete restart. Mike Lawson and Jeremie Wiggins made up the front row with Wiggins getting the lead. It was Wiggins, Lawson, Kenny Phillips the top three before another caution on lap two.
Wiggins was back in the lead on this restart as K. Phillips took second followed by Lawson, Groetsch and Gullatta Jr. Ryan Cypher spun in turn two on lap eight, bringing out the caution flag. Wiggins led with K. Phillips in close pursuit. The laps counted down as it was Wiggns, K. Phillips, Lawson and Cypher. With three laps to go K. Phillips dove down low, hoping to take the lead from Wiggins. Wiggins held strong as K. Phillips tried the outside groove on the following lap only to have Wiggins hold on for his third feature win of the season.
