it would seem these monsters are men ((any))

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

Oh, she loved it here! Abigail kicked up her heels, soft sand flying out behind her white haunches, black and white tail cracking against her hindquarters. She side-hopped, she tossed her head, and she lifted into a little half-rear before a loud and happy whinny burst from her mouth. Immediately following the cry, Abigail stilled, ears pressed forward and turning, smile twisting her mouth as a few parrots squawked deep in the jungle and those strange furry beasts she’d learned were monkeys gave their shrill (some would say ugly) cries back.

It was still early in the morning, but Atlantis’ was humid and, where she stood (out on the open beach) the rays of sun were glittering down and soaking hot into her pale skin. If she didn’t seek the shade of the jungle soon, Abigail would wind up burned. She snorted and glanced out at the turquoise blue waters of the ocean and then to the jungle, sighing softly before she started up the shoreline and into the jungle.

Braylen was wonderful, or so Abigail thought. He was fun, and kind! She couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome when she ran away from home… though some nights she certainly felt the guilt creeping up inside her when she worried what her father thought to find her gone. The mask may have been pulled away to show his more monstrous side, but Abigail still remembered him as the father who had been kind and she missed that man. Had he ever existed? She wondered on it often, if his charade had occurred her entire life, or if perhaps there had been a time where he was a good man who truly cared for his daughter…

But all of that was in the past! Abigail wished to keep it there, for thinking of it filled her with a sorrowfulness that was all-consuming. Shaking her nearly all white head (if not for that cap of blue-black which also turned her bangs black), Abigail snorted and looked around the lush jungle. That’s it! Today she was going to find Georgiana and Isobel! Braylen had told her about his two mares (and his child!) when she’d first met him and though Abigail had not crossed paths with them yet, she knew she would soon. She had to! This was her home now and that meant they were her family! Plus, Braylen had told her of each ailment the mare’s suffered and for it, Abigail already respected them immensely.

A loud whinny burst from her lips, even louder than the one she’d given in play, but this one held a certain pitch – a calling tune sung for those horses somewhere in this dense, humid jungle. Her ears flicked and she continued walking forward carefully, waiting to hear a returning call (from Georgiana, that would be) or perhaps the shuffle of hooves amongst the jungle (which would belong to Isobel)… or heck, maybe she’d even come across Sirena!

it would seem these monsters are men
and it would seem these men fear their own monsters
