Misty Mountain is opposite of Rainbow Cliff. Mists hover year-round at this high altitude, mistaken by some to be thin clouds. Thin layers of snow cover the mountain, making some areas slippery and hazardous.

Some think it romantic, a place to bring their mates, while others come to play and romp. However, all must agree that there is some level of mystery and spookiness hovering about with the mists...

They traveled as a group, but Jihae felt as if he walked alone. His whole lanky body felt distant, as if he were operating it from a different room, aware of the steady beat of his paws but not actually feeling it; wind combed gently through the stunning silver-grey silks of his robe, but he gave no indication that it chilled him; the lovely wolf’s eyes—which usually seemed closed off anyway—were now altogether devoid of any alert light. A sleepwalker. So immersed in the churning waters of his own thoughts that the outside world failed to drag him to the surface. Not exactly the best condition to be meeting the mistress they’d all be sent to seduce . . .

Although, Jihae’s heart wasn’t in this mission anyway. Not since Jiuen accepted the challenge, too.

“Young master . . . ?” The blue-eyed knight instinctively glanced toward the ivory prince, wanting to ensure the smaller varg was keeping up with the rest of the bachelor pack. Looking after Jiuen required minimal effort on Jihae’s part; he consistently put the pale lad’s needs before his own, so at this point checking on him was akin to examining his own body. They were each other’s support system: lifeline and boat. Quiet galaxies trapped by each other’s gravity. A low sigh escaped Jihae’s maw as he turned his empty attention back toward their path. What chance did either of them have to break free and win this heartless game? Jihae couldn’t even convince himself that his “wish” was worth the effort and heartache he might have to put their target through. What a pitiful, despicable creature he’d become.

Ahead, the raucous chatter of Jiwoo and Jisoo bickering peppered the air like the cawing of crows. Jihae flattened his ears toward his satin crowd in annoyance, momentarily lifting from his gossamer stupor. Were they—had they already arrived?! Abruptly Jihae quickened his dreamy pace, halting only when his crystalline blues beheld the sleeping form of a young maiden reposed in the grass. Predictably, Jisoo had positioned himself as close as he could possibly get to the earthen femme without stepping right on top of her. Clearly the sooty soldier had no manners whatsoever—to be expected of an urchin class.

“Perhaps you’ll step away from the Lady and cease with your vaguely threatening attempt at flirtation?” The words poured smooth as ice from the knight’s kissers as he regarded Jisoo with frigid disdain. The frosted warrior had no chance of winning this cruel bet, but that didn’t mean he had to let his onyx opponent act like a lascivious fool.
