The darkness broiled with all the ferocity of a bubbling ocean, frothing angrily at the cusps of the valley as though seeking to drown it in clouds black as a raven's wing. The air was hot and stifling, a summer blanket that drew the breath from the semi-naked huntress as she prowled through the forest undergrowth seeking shelter from the gathering storm. A clap of thunder resounded somewhere above the treetops, deafeningly loud, and instinct drove the slender femme towards the open plains, remembering the bite of lightning-induced fire only too well. She ran as if possessed, ears slicked to her head to drive out the whistling of the wind as it pursued her through the pines, reaching hot fingers out towards her bodice, needing her. The tension in the atmosphere grew almost unbearable, and Fiammetta reached a break in the endless forest just in time. However, instead of hurtling out into the night as she had initially planned, the white wolfess with the tawny mark pulled up sharply, narrowing her single orange eye. There before her, as though fate had planned it to be so, the ebony hellhound she despised chased his tail in hysterics, foamy saliva splashing his back chest and dripping from between his teeth. His paws blurred as he whipped this way and that, anger and madness vying for dominion in his haunting green optics as he cursed the storm. The silent watcher hesitated for a moment, unsure of her next move, when the world around her was brought into sharp focus as a fork of electricity illuminated the scene. She blanched at the sudden onslaught of sound and the glare, shaking hear head to rid herself of the confusion that had invaded it for that moment.
One breath, two and a fat, warm raindrop splattered on Fiam's muzzle.
Her eye flickered open, a fiery pinpoint of light in the darkness, and Tobias stopped his raging pausing in his insane antics to stare directly at the place in which she stood, concealed by a copse of brambles. From his throat poured a sudden, keening sound that caught her by surprise, and stirred her emotions into a vat of disorder. He cast a last, anxious hiss at the sky above them before transforming into a gargoyle, every motion put on hold as he waited. Waited for what? Her to follow his order? The female growled under her breath, her scars plaguing her suddenly as though reminding her destiny, and she took the bush in a single leap, twisting athletically to land on all four paws a few feet into the meadow. By now, the rain was coming down in sheets that helped to shield her as she advanced on the heathen, every inch a killer despite her small size. Her hackles rose upon her back and she puffed out her chest, jaws stiffened into a menacing grimace. Not that he would see much of her display of course, for the ground had begun to steam gently releasing all the heat it had been storing from the beginning of that summer. She moved into a trot and began to circle the beast, feigning lunges at him but pulling away at the last moment to run past him, aware that she was more youthful and thus more agile than he, despite the handicap of only having one eye. Suddenly she stopped her lunges and walked close enough to him that he would make out her form easily through the veil of rain, and she shouted loud enough to overcome the constant hush of the water that fell all around them, “I want to see you die tonight, wolf of shadows. I want to taste your blood. Shall we dance?”
