When solid ground grows soft with emerald moss and rivulets of black mud, and coffee-colored water pours slowly around the trunks of densely carpeted trees, this marks the beginning of Laod Mor: the swamp of Blossom Forest. Time itself seems to slow to a soporific crawl . . . the humid jungle air grows stagnant, thick with the scent of rich flooded earth and an abundance of green things that can be found nowhere else—except perhaps Caidir Olc. In some areas of the swamp, water rises so high the only way to cross it is to crawl across fallen logs or massive roots arching from their liquid beds; in other places a wolf might wade easily through the mire—or find a fortunate stretch of mostly dry earth. Pieces of the great river, Glaesfaet Sceawere, also slice through from time to time: small falls that feed into surprisingly clear pools, only to terminate into tar-like pits. Of course, Laod Mor’s beauty shines brightest at night. Here, fireflies gather at all times of the year . . . suffusing the shadowy place with millions of twinkling lights.

Those looking to hunt here of course find a myriad of water prey, including caiman, turtles, fish, crayfish, otters, and toads.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

When he mentioned his title, he instantly regretted it as she bowed to him, a shocked facade crossing her features. My deepest apologies... I didn't expect to be talking to a wolf of such great power. I'm from Spring Grounds. They have yet to rank me. Kalgalath shook his head. This was exactly why he did not enjoy mentioning his throne when he met new wolves here - it immediately changed how they looked at him. "There is no need for any of that, my title is what I do, and while it affects who I am, it is not exactly who I am. I am a wolf, just like you, just like everyone else who is living in Blossom Forest. Please do not treat me any different than you normally would." He smiled at her before crawling forward an inch, leaning forward once again to sip from the cascades. "So tell me, then, how are you enjoying Spring Grounds? I have never travelled there before... I do have alliances with a few of the other packs but not there. Tell me, is your Alpha kind? I will confess I have not kept up on their politics, who currently rules there?"

He moved back from the edge, this time creeping backward until he was fully within the rays of the sun, its bright rays raining upon him, warming his pelt. He rolled to lay upon his side, enjoying the relaxation that he always felt when he came here, to this place. It was so peaceful and familiar, that it was here that he could always let his guard down. It was was here that he could just be Kalgalath, not just another Alpha, power hungry and strong, seeking to rule over others.

He closed his lids, breathing in deeply, enjoying the wondrousness of the flora and fauna around them. He waited, still and silent, for her response... and in his mind he continued to wonder what her intentions were...and if she could be his distraction from life. She was gorgeous and kind, and seemed intelligent, all of it things he cherished in a woman...
